The City of Elk River is offering a great opportunity to gain experience in the field of wastewater treatment. We are filling a seasonal position that will work weekday daytime hours, 40 hours a week, until the end of September. The starting pay for this position is $18.00/hour. (The 2026 salary range $18-$22/hour). Position is eligible for *Earned Sick and Safe Time upon qualification for this benefit. Applicants must be at least 18 years of age, have a valid driver’s license and good driving record, and possess a high school diploma or the equivalent.
*Seasonal and part-time employees performing work for at least 80 hours in a year for the City are eligible for Earned Safe and Sick Time (ESST). ESST is paid at the same hourly rate that an employee is paid from employment with the City. ESST will accrue at a rate of one hour per 30 hours worked, up to a maximum of 48 hours of ESST per year. ESST begins to accrue at the commencement of employment. Employees may begin using ESST once they have worked 80 hours.

Position Summary The Seasonal Wastewater Laborer performs jetting on the City’s sewer lines and general maintenance in and around the wastewater treatment facility. Operates light equipment.

Essential Functions
- Performs sewer line jetting activities.
- Works with a Wastewater Operator to clean sewer lines throughout the city.
- Performs general maintenance activities.
- Performs building (exterior and interior) and grounds maintenance as assigned.
- Performs other essential job duties.
- Regular and timely work attendance.
- Follows all safety procedures.
- Participates in safety training.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Ability to understand and follow applicable OSHA standards and departmental safety practices and procedures.
- Ability to perform demanding physical labor.

Minimum Qualifications

Work Schedule
Candidates must be available to work daytime hours, 7:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 7:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Friday. Preference will be given to candidates who are able to work 40 hours per week and can work until the end of September.
