About the Department

Under the direction of the designated supervisor, the incumbent is responsible for providing real-time intelligence support to uniformed patrol officers during active incidents via radio communication and/or Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) systems. This role involves operating and monitoring surveillance camera technologies, including Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV), Automatic License Plate Readers (ALPR), and Video Management Systems (VMS), to detect and report suspicious or criminal activity.
The incumbent will utilize unmanned aircraft systems (UAS) to support law enforcement operations, including responding to calls-for-service, enhancing situational awareness, and assisting in the detection, documentation, and monitoring of incidents in progress.

The incumbent conducts in-depth analysis of crime data to identify patterns, trends, and potential suspects, supporting strategic resource deployment and crime prevention efforts. Responsibilities include compiling and analyzing data from multiple sources, maintaining crime databases, and generating detailed reports, bulletins, and visual aids (maps, charts, graphs) to inform law enforcement operations.

The incumbent collaborates with department personnel to develop and implement strategies and programs addressing specific crime issues to reduce the crime rate within the City of Coral Gables. This position plays a critical role in enhancing investigative processes, increasing apprehensions, and solving cases. This role requires ongoing support for Public Safety operations and may involve working nights, weekends, holidays, and during or after emergencies. The role does not involve supervisory duties.

Position Duties

Monitor and manage all operational functions of the Crime Intelligence Center (CIC), including live surveillance feeds, to support critical incidents and in-progress calls for service.

Operate and maintain UAS platforms in accordance with Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) regulations and departmental protocols to provide aerial support during calls-for-service, critical incidents, and pre-planned operations.
Retrieve, review, and analyze video footage related to criminal incidents; conduct video investigations; securely store and manage video evidence in compliance with policy.

Assist investigation units and patrol personnel by utilizing investigative research tools to support ongoing investigations and specialized operations.

Collect, process, analyze, and publish information to identify trends, forecast crime, and detect criminal patterns, producing reports that assist sworn personnel in allocating patrol resources, supporting investigations, and strengthening crime prevention efforts.

Coordinate with federal, state, and local law enforcement partners as needed to share intelligence and support multi-jurisdictional investigations.
May require driving to complete assigned tasks.

Attend quarterly Public Safety Initiative (PSI) meetings to review crime reports and case solvency with staff.

Maintain regular and reliable attendance with consistent physical presence in the workplace.

Perform other related duties as assigned, as this list is not all-inclusive.

Minimum Qualifications

Candidates must possess an Associate’s Degree in Data Analytics, Criminal Justice, or a related field.

Must obtain a Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Part 107 Remote Pilot Certificate within six (6) months of hire and maintain certification as a condition of continued employment.

 Experience with video management systems, video editing software, analytical applications, GIS programs, and other IT hardware and systems is preferred.

Valid Florida Driver's License.

A comparable amount of training, experience, or certifications may be substituted for the minimum qualifications.
