About the Department

Under general supervision, is responsible for operating and ensuring the maintenance of designated City vehicles including 20-passenger, ADA compliant shuttle buses; performs related duties as required.

Position Duties

(Any one position may not include all of the duties listed, nor do the examples cover all of the duties that may be performed.)

  • Operates a 20-passenger, ADA compliant shuttle bus and a 14-20 passenger, non ADA compliant shuttle bus;
  • Transports City officials, employees, and other persons to and from various City locations; 

  • Maintains shuttle bus by cleaning the interior and exterior, and checking fluid levels, such as washer fluid, oil, and fuel;

  • Transports and delivers vehicles for servicing or repairs; inspects vehicles to ensure that they are ready for use;

  • Reports observed defects in motor vehicles to supervisor;

  • Checks parking facilities for unauthorized vehicles and reports unauthorized vehicles to supervisor;

  • Enters data into a computer terminal;

  • Maintains pool vehicles by cleaning the interior and exterior;

  • Strips vehicles approved for disposal of decals and other identifying markings;

  • Assists with new vehicle and equipment check-ins;

  • Assists in preparing vehicles for auction and pick-up;

  • May clean parking facilities and work area;

  • May answer phones or respond to inquiries from the public.


Minimum Qualifications

Possession of a valid driver’s license.


By completion of the probationary period, must possess a valid Class A, B or C Commercial Driver’s License with the following endorsement:  Passenger (P).

Other Qualifications

The names of the applicants passing this administration of this exam will be used to create a NEW, OPEN COMPETITIVE, eligible list for this classification.  If you are interested in having your name included on the new eligible list, you will need to apply for this exam within the filing period and successfully complete all phases of the testing process.   Questions regarding this process can be directed to the Test Center at 614-645-7439. 

The examination process will consist of a computerized exam weighted 100% covering Oral Comprehension, Reading Comprehension, Information Ordering, Problem Sensitivity, Public/Customer Relations, and Traffic Laws, Regulations, and Driving Practices.

The exam is expected to be administered in late May 2026.  Approved applicants will be notified by mail/email of their scheduled test date and time. 

All applicants must complete all phases of the testing process in order to receive a final score.  The names of all candidates who pass this examination will remain on the eligible list for two years, unless the eligible list is replaced prior to or extended beyond the two years.  If a candidate's name is certified and the candidate is to be considered for employment, the hiring process will include one or more interviews, a criminal background check, and a pre-employment drug test.
