Description
SUMMARY
Maintains, services and repairs surface and subsurface water drainage systems by performing the following duties.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Receives written work orders or verbal instructions from the Stormwater Crew Chief, Equipment Operator, or Senior Maintenance Worker.
- Performs maintenance, repair, and improvement work on municipal stormwater drainage and conveyance systems, including cleaning and clearing waterways, repairing erosion damage, constructing drainage structures, maintaining storm drain lines, and trimming or removing trees and vegetation.
- Assists with mosquito control activities by treating waterways and trapping, collecting, and transporting mosquito samples for testing.
- Operates and maintains tools and equipment such as air hammers, concrete saws, tractors, and trucks used in stormwater system maintenance and repair.
- Cleans, inspects, and performs basic maintenance on tools and equipment, including replacing worn or damaged parts.
- Constructs forms and installs rebar for concrete structures according to specifications.
- Constructs and repairs surface drains and related structures using materials such as asphalt, cold patch, and concrete.
- Maintains clean and safe public areas, including job sites, waterways, and rights-of-way.
- Adheres to City policies, procedures, and jobsite safety regulations.
- Assists other Public Works divisions as needed, including standby duty and emergency call-back response.
- Performs other related duties and special projects as assigned.
- Maintains regular and timely attendance and works cooperatively with others in a professional and courteous manner.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
High school diploma / GED. Some related experience and/or training preferred.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
- Valid Texas Driver's License
- Ability to obtain a Texas Class B Commercial Driver's License within 6 months of hire
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to add and subtract two-digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10’s and 100’s. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume and distance.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
SPECIALIZED KSA’S
Working knowledge of street, water, wastewater and drainage maintenance procedures and equipment operating practices.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and vibration. The employee is frequently exposed to outside weather conditions. The employee may be exposed to work in areas where there is vehicular traffic nearby. The employee is occasionally exposed to high, precarious places, extreme heat, and risk of electrical shock. The employee regularly works in confined spaces and in trenches. The noise level in the work environment is usually very loud.
