About the role

Make a difference with a career in insurance

At The Cincinnati Insurance Companies, we put people first and apply the Golden Rule to our daily operations. To put this into action, we’re looking for extraordinary people to join our talented team. Our service-oriented, ethical, knowledgeable, caring associates are the heart of our vision to be the best company serving independent agents. We help protect families and businesses as they work to prevent or recover from a loss. Share your talents to help us reach for continued success as we bring value to the communities we serve and demonstrate that Actions Speak Louder in Person®.

If you’re ready to build productive relationships, collaborate within a diverse team, embrace challenges and develop your skills, then Cincinnati may be the place for you. We offer career opportunities where you can contribute and grow.

Build your future with us

The IT Business Insurance division of Cincinnati Insurance is seeking an experienced C# developer to join one of its development teams. This team is responsible for a mission-critical solution used both internally and externally for policy management.

Our solution includes:

  • a Smart Client (WinForms application)
  • SOAP and REST web services
  • a SQL Server backend
  • integration with third-party service providers

Note: While web development experience is beneficial for supporting related sites, this role does not require front-end web development skills. The emphasis is on designing and implementing SOAP and REST services, not building web UIs.

Starting pay: The pay range for this position is $82,500 - $125,000 annually. The pay determination is based on the applicant’s education, experience, location, knowledge, skills, and abilities. Eligible associates may also receive an annual cash bonus and stock incentives based on company and individual performance.

To ensure active engagement, all associates are expected to appear on camera during virtual meetings with other associates, customers and stakeholders. This practice is important for maintaining connection, as non-verbal cues are essential for effective communication and building relationships.

Work location and flexibility are subject to change based on evolving business needs, but generally, selected candidates who reside:

  • within 50 miles of Headquarters may be expected to work in a hybrid capacity, combining remote and onsite work when business needs necessitate.
  • more than 50 miles from Headquarters must be flexible and available to travel to Fairfield, OH, on an occasional basis for special events, training sessions, or key meetings.

    Be ready to:

  • contribute across all tiers of the application, with a primary focus on WinForms client, middle-tier, and backend development

  • design, development, unit testing, and maintenance of the software

  • improve the application and extend its integration with other systems, which may involve code changes to web services, server APIs, the database, and third-party interface technologies

  • work closely with other developers and technical leads to implement new functionality and resolve defects

Be equipped with:

The development toolset for this position includes Microsoft Visual Studio 2022, C#, WinForms, SOAP and REST web services, Fiddler, Git and GitHub, XML, and SQL Server 2019. The support toolset also includes Jira and BMC Helix applications

  • 5–7 years of solid and consistent .NET/C# development experience
  • working knowledge of object-oriented programming concepts (e.g., interfaces, abstract classes, virtual methods, base classes)
  • familiarity with development patterns and design best practices
  • experience with WinForms development
  • proficiency in developing Microsoft SQL Server stored procedures, indexes, and functions
  • experience with XML technologies, including XSLT and XPath

    Bring education or experience from:

  • at least 5 years of hands-on experience in C# and Microsoft SQL Server development

  • ideal candidate will collaborate with a mid-sized team to implement and enhance functionality across multiple tiers of the application.
