FyneHand is mandated to hire for the role of Group Chief Risk Officer (Investment Banking & Asset Management). The role will be based in Mumbai.
Our client, a leading full-service financial services firm, is seeking an experienced and strategic Group Chief Risk Officer to lead the enterprise-wide risk management function across multiple financial services businesses.
Role overview:
The role will be responsible for establishing and strengthening the organization's risk framework across Investment Banking, Asset Management, Capital Markets, Wealth Management, and other financial services businesses while ensuring alignment with regulatory requirements and business objectives.
The ideal candidate must have significant leadership experience in both Investment Banking and Asset Management, with a deep understanding of financial, operational, market, credit, liquidity, and enterprise risks.
Key responsibilities:
- Develop and implement the Group's Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) framework across all business verticals
- Establish risk appetite statements, risk governance structures, and risk policies aligned with the Board's strategic objectives
- Identify, assess, monitor, and mitigate enterprise-wide risks, including strategic, market, credit, liquidity, operational, technology, cyber, and reputational risks.
- Partner with business leaders to ensure prudent risk-taking while supporting business growth and innovation
- Provide independent oversight of Investment Banking activities including capital markets, advisory, structured finance, underwriting, and principal investments
- Oversee risk management across Asset Management businesses, including mutual funds, alternative investment funds (AIFs), portfolio management services (PMS), and other investment products
- Review investment proposals, product launches, new business initiatives, and strategic transactions from a risk perspective
- Present comprehensive risk reports and key risk indicators (KRIs) to the Board, Board Risk Committee, Audit Committee, and senior management
- Ensure compliance with applicable regulatory frameworks including SEBI, RBI, Companies Act, and other relevant regulations
- Strengthening governance around model risk, valuation risk, counterparty risk, liquidity risk, concentration risk, and stress testing
- Lead scenario analysis, stress testing, capital adequacy assessments, and risk forecasting exercises
- Work closely with Compliance, Internal Audit, Legal, Finance, Treasury, and business leadership to build a robust control environment
- Foster a strong risk culture across the organization through training, communication, and continuous improvement initiatives
- Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing risk management team
Candidate profile:
- 20+ years of experience in risk management within financial services
- Mandatory experience in both Investment Banking and Asset Management
- Proven experience leading enterprise risk at a large financial institution, investment bank, asset management company, diversified financial services group, or similar organization
- Strong understanding of capital markets, equity and debt products, structured finance, advisory businesses, asset management, AIFs, PMS, and wealth management
- Deep knowledge of enterprise risk management frameworks, risk governance, and regulatory expectations
- Experience interacting with Boards, Board Risk Committees, regulators, auditors, and senior stakeholders
- Demonstrated ability to balance commercial objectives with robust risk governance
- Excellent leadership, communication, stakeholder management, and decision-making skills
Preferred qualifications:
- CA / MBA (Finance) / CFA / FRM or equivalent professional qualification
- Additional certifications in Risk Management, Financial Risk, or Governance will be an advantage
