Job Summary:
BJS is looking for a committed and detail-oriented professionals to join team as COO. This position is responsible for leading the organization's operational excellence, program delivery, financial stewardship, scalability, governance, and organizational effectiveness.
The COO will be responsible for driving operational strategy and ensuring seamless execution of BJS's programs across multiple geographies and verticals. The role requires a seasoned leader with a proven track record of managing large-scale NGO operations, program portfolios, budgets, teams, donor compliance, and organizational growth.
Key Responsibilities:
(a) Strategic Leadership & Organizational Growth:
¨ Partner with the MD in formulating and executing organizational strategy and long-term growth plans.
¨ Drive operational transformation and institutional strengthening initiatives.
¨ Develop scalable systems, structures, and processes to support organizational expansion.
¨ Translate strategic objectives into measurable operational outcomes.
¨ Act as a key advisor to the MD and leadership team on operational and organizational matters.
(b) Program Operations & Delivery:
¨ Oversee end-to-end implementation of programs across all projects and locations.
¨ Ensure achievement of program goals, timelines, quality standards, and impact metrics.
¨ Establish strong monitoring, evaluation, and reporting mechanisms.
¨ Drive operational efficiency and continuous improvement across program functions.
¨ Lead risk assessment and mitigation planning for program delivery.
(c) Budgeting & Financial Management:
¨ Lead annual operational planning and budgeting processes.
¨ Manage large-scale program and organizational budgets effectively.
¨ Monitor financial performance, utilization, forecasting, and cost optimization.
¨ Ensure financial accountability, transparency, and donor compliance.
¨ Work closely with Finance teams to strengthen financial controls and reporting systems.
(d) Scalability & Process Excellence:
¨ Build frameworks for sustainable growth and replication of successful programs.
¨ Design and implement SOPs, operational policies, governance structures, and performance systems.
¨ Leverage technology and data-driven decision-making to improve operational effectiveness.
¨ Identify opportunities for innovation, process automation, and productivity enhancement
(e) People Leadership & Organizational Development:
¨ Lead and mentor senior management teams across functions and locations.
¨ Build high-performance teams and strengthen leadership capability.
¨ Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, innovation, and impact.
¨ Support workforce planning, succession planning, and talent development initiatives.
(f) Governance, Compliance & Risk Management:
¨ Ensure adherence to statutory, regulatory, donor, and organizational compliance requirements.
¨ Strengthen governance mechanisms and internal controls.
¨ Oversee organizational risk management frameworks.
¨ Ensure readiness for audits, reviews, and compliance assessments.
(g) Stakeholder & Partnership Management:
¨ Represent the organization with donors, CSR partners, government bodies, institutional partners, and external stakeholders.
¨ Build and nurture strategic partnerships to strengthen organizational impact and sustainability.
¨ Support fundraising initiatives through operational planning and execution expertise.
Qualifications & Experience:
¨ Master’s degree in management, Social Work, Development Studies, Public Policy, Rural Development, or related field.
¨ Minimum 15 years of progressive leadership experience in NGOs, Foundations, Development Sector Organizations, or Social Impact Institutions.
¨ Minimum 5+ years in a senior leadership role managing multi-location operations and large teams.
