Chief Operating Officer· CEO-track
We are partnering with one of our portfolio companies to hire a Chief Operating Officer - a new leadership role with an explicit runway to step into the CEO seat as the business scales toward its next milestone.
The business:
A ~₹100 Cr retail platform on a clear path to the ₹500 Cr range over the next 24 months. The business sits inside a joint venture between two well-established, heavyweight promoters - one of India’s largest food companies and a category-defining fresh produce supply-chain platform - bringing complementary supply chains, an existing multi-city retail base, and proprietary retail tech.
The platform operates across company-owned stores, franchised partner outlets, shop-in-shop counters in modern trade, quick commerce, and direct channels. It is built on an entrepreneur-partner architecture, where local operators co-own stores and earn into a Partner Stock Option Pool tied to EBITDA contribution.
Stand-alone entity with its own cap table, designed to raise institutional capital on its own milestones - independent of either promoter’s existing trajectory.
The role:
A net-new role, built around the right archetype rather than designed into a legacy structure.
The COO will:
- Own the AOP and run day-to-day operations across all store formats
- Build and lead the on-ground team; scale the entrepreneur-partner network across 8–10 cities in Year 1
- Deliver unit economics by channel, partner, and geography
- Work closely with the JV Board and the CEO
- Step into the CEO seat as the business scales meaningfully
This role is for someone who wants to build a category-defining retail business from a position of strength — not start from zero, not inherit a legacy.
You are likely a fit if you bring
- 12–15 years of senior operating experience in FMCG, organised fresh / fruits and vegetables, perishables retail, modern trade retail, or high-frequency QSR
- A track record of running multi-city store networks at scale and owning unit economics end-to-end
- Experience managing franchisee, partner, or operator ecosystems — not just a captive team
- Strength in building and leading large on-ground teams in operationally complex, high-frequency businesses
- Communication gravitas and the temperament to navigate a 50:50 promoter setting
This role will not suit someone looking for a pure HQ or strategy seat. It is an operating role at heart — the COO will spend meaningful time in cities, stores, and with partners.
Compensation
Senior leadership package calibrated to the right archetype, plus meaningful JV-level ESOP. We are keeping the range fluid until we land on the right person.

India-based, with significant time across operating cities. Base location Bangalore
