Role Objective

As the second-highest executive at Emami Frank Ross Ltd., the COO will be responsible for the end-to-end operational excellence and strategic growth of the retail business. This role demands a high-calibre leader to drive P&L performance, scale the store network, and integrate various business verticals—including FMCG, Branded Generics, and Pathology—into a seamless, profitable engine.


Executive Summary

·      Designation: Chief Operating Officer (COO)

·      Reporting to: Managing Director (MD)

·      Location: Esplanade, Kolkata (Headquarters)

·      Experience: 15 – 25 Years

·      Industry Preference: Consumer Retail (Pharma, FMCG, or Organized Retail)

·      Compensation: Up to ₹60 LPA+ (Commensurate with merit)

·      Work Structure: 6 Days (Alternate Saturdays off) | Work from Office


Key Responsibilities & Strategic Mandate


1. Operational Excellence & P&L Management

·      Drive the P&L and EBITDA performance for a network of 300+ stores.

·      Formulate and execute monthly, quarterly, and annual sales strategies across all segments to meet aggressive revenue targets.

·      Optimize System & Process Improvements to enhance organizational efficiency and bottom-line profitability.


2. Growth, Expansion & Business Development

·      Lead the Retail Expansion strategy by identifying high-potential locations and overseeing the successful launch of new stores.

·      Spearhead Product & Business Development initiatives to diversify revenue streams.

·      Aggressively grow the Corporate Sales portfolio by acquiring and retaining large-scale corporate clients.


3. Strategic Insights & Market Intelligence

·      Business Analytics & Insights: Leverage data-driven insights to monitor KPIs, identifying underlying trends and performance gaps to drive informed decision-making across all 300+ stores.

·      Competitor Analysis & Benchmarking: Conduct rigorous mapping of competitor movements, pricing strategies, and service models to maintain a dominant market position in the pharmacy and retail space.

·      Industry Best Practices: Proactively identify and integrate global retail best practices, emerging technologies, and innovative operational workflows to modernize the Emami Frank Ross consumer experience.

·      Market Intelligence: Monitor pharmaceutical and FMCG industry shifts to pivot strategies in alignment with regulatory changes and evolving consumer behavior.


4. Merchandising & Brand Identity

·      Oversee Planogramming and Visual Merchandising to ensure a uniform and premium customer experience across all outlets.

·      Direct the Marketing, Branding, and Advertising strategy to strengthen market presence and consumer recall.


5. Human Capital & Organizational Design

·      Provide leadership to a workforce of 2,000+ employees, fostering a culture of high performance and accountability.

·      Lead Organizational Restructuring efforts to ensure the Operations and support teams are lean, agile, and scalable.


6. Vertical Specialization

·      Ensure dedicated growth trajectories for FMCG sales, Branded Generics, and the Pathology division within the retail ecosystem.


Stakeholder Collaboration

The COO will work in close coordination with functional heads to ensure seamless execution:

·      Supply Chain & Logistics: To optimize inventory turnover and warehouse efficiency.

·      Finance: For budgetary control, audit compliance, and financial forecasting.

·      HR & L&D: To drive talent acquisition and specialized training for retail staff.

·      Compliance: Ensuring all pharmaceutical and retail licenses are up-to-date and strictly followed.


Ideal Candidate Profile

·      Age: Below 45 years.

·      Experience: Proven track record in a senior leadership role (GM/VP/SVP) within the Indian retail landscape for the last 5-7 years.

·      Skillset: Exceptional analytical skills, command over retail KPIs, along with good team building and leadership skills.

·      Attributes: A "boots-on-the-ground" leader willing to travel across the store network while maintaining a strategic view from the boardroom.
