The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of a manufacturing company is a strategic executive responsible for driving fiscal health, managing capital-intensive assets, and optimizing resource allocation. They oversee cost accounting, supply chain economics, and financial risk management while ensuring profitability, stable cash flow, and scalable growth for the business
Key Responsibilities
Manufacturing Finance & Cost Optimization
- Oversee cost accounting processes, including standard costing, variance analysis, and bill of materials (BOM) accuracy.
- Monitor plant-level financial controls, operational efficiency metrics, and inventory valuations.
- Develop pricing strategies and analyze profit margins by product line, customer segment, and manufacturing facility.
Financial Planning, Budgeting & Forecasting
- Direct annual budgeting and long-term financial forecasting, aligning them with production capacity and sales targets.
- Optimize working capital by closely monitoring accounts receivable, accounts payable, and raw material inventory levels.
- Evaluate Return on Investment (ROI) for major capital expenditures (CapEx), such as new machinery, facility upgrades, or automation technology.
Risk Management & Compliance
- Manage financial risks unique to manufacturing, including supply chain disruptions and commodity price volatility.
- Implement robust internal controls to prevent fraud and ensure compliance with relevant accounting standards (e.g., AS, Ind AS, IFRS, or GAAP).
- Oversee global trade compliance, including tariff impacts, customs duties, and cross-border transfer pricing.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Education: Master’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or Business Administration CPA (Certified Public Accountant), or CA (Chartered Accountant) is strongly preferred.
- Experience: Progressive financial experience, with at least 5-10 years in a senior executive role within the manufacturing sector.
- Industry Knowledge: Deep understanding of manufacturing supply chains, production scheduling dynamics, and complex cost accounting methodologies.
- Soft Skills: Exceptional negotiation, analytical, and leadership skills, capable of bridging communication between the factory floor and the boardroom.
