Role Description The Chess Coach will design and deliver engaging online chess lessons for children and teenagers, using digital platforms to conduct group classes and one-on-one sessions. Day-to-day responsibilities include preparing lesson plans, teaching foundational to advanced chess concepts, analyzing games, providing feedback to learners, and tracking student progress. The role also involves creating practice materials, organizing internal tournaments or practice matches, and collaborating with the team to continuously improve the curriculum and teaching methods. The Chess Coach will communicate regularly with parents or guardians regarding learner development and address any questions about training. This is a full-time remote role.
Qualifications
- Strong chess proficiency (advanced player level or titled status preferred) and ability to teach opening principles, tactics, strategy, and endgames in a clear, structured way.
- Experience teaching or coaching children and teenagers online, with skill in managing virtual classrooms and using digital tools for interactive lessons.
- Excellent communication skills, including clear verbal instruction, constructive feedback, and the ability to explain complex ideas in simple terms.
- Ability to create lesson plans, training schedules, and practice exercises tailored to different age groups and skill levels.
- Patience, empathy, and a learner-centered approach, with a focus on building confidence, sportsmanship, and critical thinking.
- Comfort with technology, including video conferencing platforms, online chess tools (e.g., lichess, Chess.com, or similar), and basic productivity software.
- Prior experience in an online education environment or extracurricular coaching is an advantage; formal coaching certifications or chess federation recognition are a plus.
- Availability to work full time with flexible hours to accommodate different time zones; reliable internet connection and a quiet, professional workspace.
