About the Department
Are you passionate about ensuring child well-being and have experience in case management or fast paced customer service? Chatham County Child Support is seeking a dedicated Child Support Specialist to join our team.
Position Duties
- Process applications and establish, maintain, and enforce orders for financial and medical child support.
- Receive and review applications for accuracy, screen applicants using State systems, research client status for benefits, resources, income, and expenses, and meet standards of Data Reliability in all cases.
- Assist Child Support staff in establishing, maintaining, and enforcing support payments for dependent children.
- Perform initial interviews to open new child support cases, gather and verify information, and determine case types.
- Locate non-custodial parents utilizing local, state, and federal electronic resources and locating techniques.
- Communicate case status and actions to customers, create and maintain electronic documentation related to all work activities, and electronically file court documents.
- May assist with establishing or determining the validity of paternity claims and genetic testing.
- Respond to high volumes of telephone calls, assist the public with questions related to general child support services and case information, and refer calls to other Child Support staff.
- Assist with obtaining, securing, and submitting data to calculate support, support arrears, and distribution of funds for dependent children.
- Enter support orders into computer systems and forward information to appropriate personnel.
- Assist with preparing and maintaining all documentation for court proceedings forwarded to the court for action.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Associate Degree in a related field, and
- At least one (1) year of experience involving interviewing and obtaining information from the public, case management, customer service, conducting financial calculations and/or transactions, or applying collection principles, gathering financial information, and scheduling payments; or
- Any equivalent combination of training and experience.
- Must be able to lift, carry, push, and/or pull objects and materials up to ten (10) pounds.
- Must be able to type a minimum of 25 words per minute. Selected candidates will be required to complete keyboarding and clerical testing during the interview process.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in case management or a high-volume customer service environment.
