About the role

Job Description

Key Areas of Responsibility:

  • Supporting the Head of the team on ETF / Index Fund / ETC and Index Research.
  • Responsible for the preparation and dissemination of the Collectives Team’s Preferred and ETP Covered Lists for passives, including the monthly sector reviews and quarterly performance reports sent to the investment network.
  • Attend fund-provider product meetings and conferences, where applicable.
  • Conduct regular fund analysis using Financial Express Analytics / Bloomberg and other information providers.
  • Actively contribute to Charles Stanley’s asset allocation and fund products selection process.
  • As the Associate Analyst progresses through the role, they will be expected to begin contributing to the fund selection / idea generation for the Charles Stanley Research Team’s guidance portfolios.
  • Respond to the changing research needs of Charles Stanley in a flexible and constructive manner.
  • Keeping up to date with industry developments in terms of new product launches, flow data, fee changes, regulatory changes, etc.
  • Respond to information requests from the investment network and sales team.
  • Contributions as necessary to Asset Allocation and Investment Strategy Forum and internal daily, weekly, and monthly performance summaries.
  • Produce monthly performance attribution commentary on the index tracking products included in the Charles Stanley Research Team’s guidance portfolios.
  • Produce marketing material as required such as internal blogs, quarterly research articles
  • Build and maintain spreadsheets of key passive-products metrics.
  • Conduct reviews of internal holdings of index tracking products and recommend potential switch ideas. Participation towards internal Group ‘Morning Meetings’ and other internal presentations to share insights and recommendations to the investment network.
  • Responding to fund specific questions from the network.

Qualifications & Experience

  • University degree or equivalent (preferred).
  • Relevant professional qualifications, i.e. Investment Management Certificate and/or CFA Level 1, or equivalent.
  • Minimum 18 months in funds research, or related role.
  • A sound understanding of the funds research process and analysis techniques.
  • Ability to develop and communicate an investment thesis clearly.
  • Ability to cover funds shortly after starting role.

Knowledge & Skills

  • Knowledge of UK wealth management and retail investment products.
  • A methodical and organised approach, with the ability to work to deadlines.
  • An awareness of, and interest in, investments and global stock market indices.
  • An understanding of financial markets, macro-economics, and multiple asset classes.
  • Good analytical and problem-solving skills, producing highly accurate written information.
  • Client-friendly communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Proficient in using Microsoft Office, with strong Excel skills.
  • Experience of using Bloomberg (Functions: PORT, ETF, GP (line charts), etc) and other data platforms essential.
  • A flexible and collaborative team player.
  • A self-starter, highly motivated and with strong attention to detail.
