Title: Case Manager/Peer Navigator
Department: Counseling Center
Non-Exempt, Part time
- Position Summary
The Student Worker Case Manager provides support to individuals who may need assistance accessing services, including, but not limited to, mental health support, housing resources, basic needs assistance, academic support services, and community programs.
This role helps connect individuals with appropriate resources while supporting the coordination and navigation of available services.
Responsibilities may include assisting with information gathering, organizing and maintaining case files, communicating with clients, supporting intake and referral processes, scheduling appointments, conducting basic check-ins, and documenting interactions while maintaining confidentiality and adhering to privacy guidelines.
This position focuses on support, coordination, and resource navigation rather than providing clinical treatment. The role offers students valuable experience in communication,
problem-solving, documentation, and gaining an understanding of how support and service systems operate within settings such as university counseling centers, nonprofit organizations, and community service programs.
- Learning Outcomes
- Develop applied case management and resource navigation skills: Students will demonstrate the ability to assess basic client needs, identify appropriate campus and community resources, and facilitate effective referrals across systems such as mental health, housing, academic support, and basic needs services.
- Strengthen documentation, follow-up, and care coordination competencies: Students will accurately document client interactions, track service utilization, and conduct follow-ups, demonstrating accountability, continuity of care, and organizational precision in a case management framework.
- Apply ethical, professional, and culturally responsive communication in helping roles: Students will demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively with clients and professionals while maintaining boundaries, confidentiality, and cultural humility within a supervised, non-clinical support role.

- Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist with client intake by collecting basic information and helping complete necessary forms.
- Provide information about available campus and community resources and help connect individuals to appropriate services.
- Support case coordination by organizing files and maintaining accurate documentation.
- Schedule appointments and assist with coordinating meetings between clients and professional staff.
- Conduct follow-up check-ins to ensure clients have accessed or received the recommended services.
- Maintain strict confidentiality and follow privacy guidelines such as HIPAA and FERPA when handling client information.
- Support outreach programs, workshops, or educational events related to wellness and support services.
- Communicate professionally with clients, staff, and community partners to assist with service coordination.
- Perform general administrative tasks such as data entry, filing, and organizing program materials.
- Work under the supervision of licensed or professional staff to ensure ethical and appropriate support for clients.

- Education and Experience
Minimum
- Must be enrolled as a full-time undergraduate or graduate student at Chaminade University of Honolulu or a part-time undergraduate or graduate student at Chaminade University of Honolulu
- Maintain a cumulative GPA of at least 2.5
- Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Maintain professionalism and a respectful demeanor in all interactions with clients, staff, and community partners.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Google Docs/Drive for documentation, reporting, and communication.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to interact effectively via email, phone, and in-person.
- Ability to adapt to changing tasks, priorities, and work environments while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills to track client interactions, appointments, and follow-ups.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and follow ethical guidelines when handling sensitive client information.
- Capacity to work collaboratively with a team and take direction from supervising staff.
- Basic problem-solving skills to assist clients in navigating available resources and services.
- Physical Requirements
Duties involve light work in an office and community setting and requires a minimum of physical effort with intermittent sitting, standing, climbing stairs, and walking inclines. Must be able to lift 20 pounds, walk the campus with ease, and have excellent motor skills. Must have finger dexterity. Must be able to communicate information and ideas so that others will understand.
- Other Requirements:
- This is a Part-time Non-Exempt Student Worker position. Depending on the project cycles and workflow demands of the department, additional hours or workday schedule changes may be occasionally required. Must be willing and able to work occasional nights and weekends and a varying schedule.
