Skills/Experience :
- Bachelor's degree
- Strong knowledge of Medical terminology, Anatomy and Physiology
- 2-4 Years- experience in Medical Coding
- Certification preferred (CPC/COC/CCS/CIC)
- Fluent verbal communication abilities
- Knowledge of Healthcare terminology and ICD/CPT codes
- Strong reporting skills
- Familiar with Microsoft Excel
- Excellent typing and accuracy
Key Skills
· Ability to read SOAP/Encounter notes and understand the medical terminology and code as per industry standards and ensure compliance.
· Ensure codes are accurate and sequenced correctly in accordance with Government and Insurance regulations
· Assign codes to diagnoses and procedures, using ICD and CPT codes
· Review clinical documentation to extract relevant information for coding, ensure optimum code utilization under regulation.
· Follow up with the provider on any documentation that is insufficient or unclear
· Communicate with other clinical staff regarding documentation
· Search for information in cases where the coding is complex or unusual
· Receive and review patient charts and documents for accuracy and ensure that all codes are current and active
· Review batch of patient notes for evaluation and coding
· Maintain up-to-date knowledge of coding and billing regulations specific to Emergency Medicine.
