TITLE: Middle School Assistant Coach
REPORTS TO: Head Coach; Athletic Director and/or Building Principal
BARGAINING UNIT: Central Valley Coaches Association (CVCA)
GENERAL SUMMARY
The Middle School Assistant Coach supports the Head Coach in delivering a safe, inclusive, and developmentally
appropriate athletic program. Responsibilities include assisting with practices, athlete supervision, safety
procedures, and program logistics in alignment with WIAA, league, and district expectations. The assistant coach
helps foster teamwork, sportsmanship, and student growth.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
1. Assist the Head Coach in planning and leading practices, contests, and team activities.
2. Promote leadership, responsibility, and good sportsmanship among student-athletes.
3. Supervise students during practices, contests, travel, and other team-related activities.
4. Support the Head Coach with equipment setup, organization, and maintenance.
5. Help maintain accurate records and ensure documentation is completed via FinalForms.
6. Enforce team expectations and district policies for athlete conduct and safety.
7. Maintain up-to-date knowledge of WIAA, league, and district regulations.
8. Maintain required certifications in First Aid, CPR, and annual WIAA and district training (e.g., Vector,
bloodborne pathogens).
9. Communicate positively with students, staff, and families in support of team goals.
10. Participate in required WIAA and league meetings or training sessions.
11. Attend team meetings and contribute to coaching staff collaboration.
12. Assist in team recognition and end-of-season activities as directed.
13. Support equitable access and participation consistent with Title IX expectations.
14. For the first two weeks, practices and competitions will be scheduled Monday through Friday. After that,
they will be held Monday through Thursday. Any participation outside this schedule should occur only with
prior approval and only in cases of significant scheduling conflicts.
15. Perform other duties as assigned by the Head Coach, Athletic Coordinator, or Building Administrator.
REQUIREMENTS & CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
• Must pass a criminal background check at the candidate’s expense.
• Maintain current First Aid and CPR certification.
• Complete all WIAA-required coaching standards and district trainings (including Vector).
• Use FinalForms for compliance and recordkeeping.
• Adhere to all district, CVCA, and WIAA policies and expectations.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Must possess the physical capability and stamina to support practices, coach events, and respond to emergency
situations.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
• Coaching or relevant leadership experience preferred.
• Ability to collaborate effectively with students, staff, and the coaching team.
• Knowledge of WIAA and district regulations and safety standards.
• Commitment to fostering a positive and inclusive team culture.
