We are seeking a strategic Business Development Manager to build and execute our go-to-market strategy for companies impacted by the EU’s Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM).
The role involves:
- Identifying companies that qualify for CBAM reporting
- Mapping EU-exposed iron & steel exporters
- Designing outreach strategies
- Converting industrial exporters into CBAM advisory clients
This is a high-ownership role requiring regulatory awareness, industrial market understanding, and execution capability.
Key responsibilities:
- Market Intelligence & Quantification
- Identify Indian iron & steel companies exporting to EU
- Analyse trade data to determine:
- Volume exposure
- CN code eligibility under CBAM
- Segment companies into:
- High exposure (urgent need)
- Moderate exposure
- Low exposure
- Track evolution of CBAM and alignment with the EU Emissions Trading System (EU ETS) pricing impact.
2.Define Target Companies
The role must answer:
- Which companies legally require reporting?
- Which companies will face high carbon cost exposure post-2026?
- Which MSMEs lack internal sustainability teams?
Target categories:
- Secondary steel producers
- Rolling mills
- Pipe & tube exporters
- Stainless steel MSMEs
3.Outreach & Engagement Strategy
Design and execute a structured approach:
A. Cluster-level Strategy
Engage with:
- Engineering Export Promotion Council of India
- Federation of Indian Export Organisations
- State-level steel associations
Conduct:
- CBAM awareness workshops
- Cluster briefings
B. Direct Outreach
- Identify Export Heads / CFOs / Promoters
- Position CBAM as:
- Revenue protection
- EU market access requirement
- Cost-risk mitigation
C. EU Buyer Backward Strategy
- Identify EU buyers demanding CBAM compliance
- Use buyer pressure to onboard Indian suppliers
4.Pipeline & Revenue Strategy
- Build MSME database
- Qualify leads
- Design pricing strategy:
- CBAM reporting package
- Full carbon accounting support
- Ongoing compliance retainer
- Develop CRM tracking framework
Required Skills
- Strong B2B industrial sales experience
- Understanding of trade/export ecosystem
- Ability to read basic trade data
- Regulatory awareness (CBAM basics required)
- Strategic thinking + execution orientation
Preferred Required
- Experience in steel / heavy industry
- Worked with export councils
- Climate / sustainability exposure preferred
- Experience engaging MSME promoters
