Crisis Prevention Coordinator - WHRC

Salary: $28.21 per hour 

Catholic Charities of Baltimore, Weinberg Housing and Resource Center is seeking a Crisis Prevention Coordinator who will support clients at the Weinberg Housing and Resource Center, where individuals often face complex challenges including mental health conditions, substance use, trauma, and housing instability. Clients frequently present with immediate crisis needs. The Crisis Prevention Coordinator provides crisis intervention and stabilization support, helping clients navigate intense emotions and difficult situations while offering grounding, practical guidance, and an anchor in reality. Working closely with case management staff and community partners, this role helps de-escalate crises, promote safety, and connect clients to appropriate behavioral health, medical, and supportive resources to improve stability and well-being. The work schedule is Tuesday - Saturday 9 AM - 5 PM (flexible) 

Catholic Charities of Baltimore Weinberg Housing and Resource Center is a low-barrier emergency shelter that provides homeless services to over 275 adult men and women each night in the City of Baltimore. Our services include shelter, convalescent care, breakfast and dinner, showers, laundry, case management and a variety of life skills and empowerment classes – with a focused goal of assisting residents in obtaining permanent housing.

JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Build therapeutic relationships with clients and collaborate with the Case Management Team to support high-needs clients, providing assessments and recommendations for ongoing services and care planning.
• Promote housing stability and client well-being by implementing interventions and supports that reduce recidivism and increase housing retention by targeted program benchmarks.
• Provide crisis intervention and stabilization services, including assessment of urgent behavioral health concerns and appropriate referrals to medical, mental health, or community resources.
• Evaluate the appropriateness of hospital drop-offs and coordinate with relevant providers to ensure continuity of care and appropriate service utilization.
• Actively engage clients to reduce emergency service utilization, including supporting efforts to decrease unnecessary 911 calls through proactive engagement and connection to appropriate supports.
• Facilitate educational groups and provide individual guidance related to mental health, substance use, somatic health conditions, and medication compliance.
• Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with external providers, community partners, and service agencies to strengthen coordinated care and resource access.
• Maintain accurate, timely documentation of all client interactions, services, and outcomes in accordance with agency policies and reporting requirements.
• Demonstrate knowledge of and adherence to program policies, procedures, and mission-aligned service delivery standards.
• Participate in required meetings, training, and professional development related to behavioral health, substance use, trauma-informed care, and quality service delivery.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

• Bachelor’s degree in Human Services, Social Work, or a related field required; Master’s degree preferred.
• Minimum of two years of related professional experience required, including experience working with at-risk or vulnerable populations.
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively with individuals experiencing crisis, including those affected by mental health challenges, substance use, trauma, or housing instability.
• Certification as a Behavioral Health Case Manager, Clinical Mental Health Counselor, or a closely related behavioral health credential required.
• An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Certification/Licensure:

• Certified Behavioral Health Case Manager (CBHCM), Certified Clinical Mental Health Counselor (CCMHC), or another related credential.

• Requires proficiency in using computer systems and software to perform job function, including but not limited to, basic Windows PC, web browsing (i.e., Chrome, Internet Explorer, etc.), and Microsoft Outlook. Knowledge of other Microsoft Office applications, such as Word, Excel PowerPoint, Teams, and OneDrive is preferred.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS & WORK ENVIRONMENT:

• No remote or hybrid work availability based on core and essential functions of the position.
• Flexibility may be required to work beyond standard hours, including weekends and holidays, as needed.
• Moving about to accomplish tasks which may involve walking, standing, or traveling to various locations as required by the role.
• Adjusting or moving objects up to 20 pounds in all directions, which may include lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, or repositioning items as necessary to perform job duties.
• Engaging in communication with others to exchange information, which may involve speaking, listening, writing, or using electronic communication methods to ensure clear and effective understanding.
• Repetitive motions involving the wrists, hands, and/or fingers, including tasks such as typing, data entry, or handling small objects. These repetitive activities may occur throughout the workday and require attention to ergonomics to ensure comfort and minimize strain.
• Assessing the accuracy, neatness, and completeness of assigned work to ensure it meets quality standards and adheres to established guidelines.
• Driving personal vehicle is required for this position. Driver must be at least 21 years of age, with a minimum of 2 years of driving experience, and a valid driver’s license issued by the state of residence.   There can be no state issued restrictions on the licenses that would impede drivers’ ability to operate the vehicle as required by the Agency, and there must not be more than three (3) points on their driving record.
