Cath Lab Technician is responsible for assisting cardiologists during diagnostic and interventional cardiac procedures, ensuring proper functioning of cath lab equipment, maintaining sterile environment, and providing patient care before, during, and after procedures.
Key Responsibilities1. Procedure Assistance- Assist cardiologists during procedures such as:
- Coronary Angiography (CAG)
- Angioplasty (PTCA)
- Pacemaker Implantation
- Peripheral Angiography
- Prepare and arrange catheters, guidewires, balloons, and stents
- Monitor patient vitals during procedures
2. Equipment Handling- Operate cath lab imaging systems and monitoring equipment
- Ensure proper functioning of:
- C-arm / Fluoroscopy machine
- Hemodynamic monitoring system
- Report equipment malfunction immediately
3. Patient Care- Prepare patient prior to procedure (shaving, positioning, consent verification)
- Maintain sterile field throughout procedure
- Assist in post-procedure care and patient transfer
- Monitor for complications (bleeding, arrhythmias, etc.)
4. Infection Control & Safety- Follow strict aseptic techniques
- Adhere to radiation safety protocols
- Ensure use of PPE and lead protection
- Maintain cath lab cleanliness as per NABH standards
5. Documentation & Records- Maintain procedure records and logs
- Update patient data in hospital system
- Track inventory usage (stents, consumables)
6. Inventory Management- Maintain stock of consumables and emergency drugs
- Coordinate with stores for replenishment
- Ensure proper storage of sterile items
7. Emergency Handling- Assist in emergency cardiac procedures
- Support CPR and resuscitation if required
- Keep crash cart ready and functional
Qualification & Experience- Diploma / B.Sc. in Cardiac Care Technology / Cath Lab Technology
- Minimum 1–3 years experience in Cath Lab (preferred)
- Freshers can be considered for junior roles
Required Skills- Knowledge of cardiac procedures and equipment
- Basic ECG interpretation
- Strong attention to detail
- Ability to work in high-pressure situations
- Good communication and teamwork
