POSITION TITLE: Childcare Attendant
DIVISION: Recreation & Facilities
REPORTS TO: Recreation Services Assistant Manager
FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt; Part-Time
PAY RANGE: Starting at $13.00 per hour
Purpose of Position:
This position is responsible for maintaining and creating a safe, enjoyable experience for children ages two years to twelve years old while parents/guardians utilize the Monon Community Center. A successful candidate for this position should possess a friendly demeanor, ability to relate to children and parents, work as a team player, be safety conscious, and deliver exemplary customer service.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.
- Supervises and engages with children ages 2 to 12 years old.
- Consistently model and guide children in character development through actions, activities, and dialogue.
- Assist in implementing various activities throughout the year in order to provide continued structure to the Monon Station.
- Monitors the general maintenance and safety of the Monon Station; and either reports concerns to the appropriate staff member or will directly address the concern.
- Use excellent customer service skills to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees and all members of the general public
- Responds to and cares for emergencies in the Monon Station.
- Monitors the use of the Monon Station and enforces rules and policies.
- Performs a variety of miscellaneous duties such as answering phone, making copies, and Inventory.
- Responds to public inquiries, suggestions and complaints. Informs management as necessary
- Opens and closes area for daily use.
- Ensures first aid supplies and emergency equipment are in order and accessible.
- Maintains a safe and clean work environment.
- Performs other related work as required.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required to Perform Essential Job Functions:
- Ability to assess people and varying situations, and act accordingly.
- Ability to positively adhere to and enforce Carmel Clay Parks & Recreation policy and procedures; implement emergency plans.
- The Childcare Attendant is regularly required to work within moderate to loud environments associated with child care. The Childcare Attendant should be able to identify various sounds such as cries for help.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, guests and the general public.
- Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing; ability to give and understand oral and written instructions.
- Ability to exert moderate physical effort, typically involving some combination of stooping, kneeling, crouching and crawling, and that might involve the lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials weighing 10-50 pounds.
- Ability to operate a personal computer utilizing word processing, spreadsheet, and recreation software applications as may be necessary to perform essential job functions.
- Ability to positively promote the image of Carmel Clay Parks & Recreation.
Qualifications Required to Perform Essential Job Functions:
- American Red Cross CPR/AED/First Aid Certification within 60 days of hire.
- Two years child care experience or experience sufficient to perform job duties.
- Minimum age 16 years old.
Must Complete Prior to Starting with Carmel Clay Parks & Recreation
- Must pass a background check that encompasses national, state and local searches, to be completed every five years.
