About the role

The City of Carlsbad is seeking an experienced, forward-thinking and dynamic Human Resources Director to join our leadership team, lead our high-functioning HR department, and take a pro-active approach to complex HR related challenges citywide. This position plays a crucial role in shaping the city's workforce, overseeing HR policies, and ensuring compliance with employment laws and best practices. The ideal candidate will have a passion for public service, strong leadership skills, and be a committed mentor and leader who inspires trust and will maintain a positive workplace culture. So, what exactly would you be doing? In this position you would lead a centralized, full-service Human Resources Department team that supports the city as a whole and all city departments with their human resources, labor relations, risk management, workers' compensation, and safety compliance needs. Provide highly responsible and technical staff assistance to the City Manager and City Council. Plan, organize and direct the Human Resource Management activities throughout the city in the following program areas, including but not limited to: Benefits, Health & Wellness and Leaves Classification & Compensation Education, Learning & Development Organizational Development Employee Engagement Employer and Employee Relations & Performance Management Equity and Inclusion Labor Relations Recruitment & Selection Risk Management, Workers' Compensation & Safety Compliance
