About the role

CarGurus is seeking a summer intern to join our Data Science and Machine Learning team! The team develops machine learning systems and AI solutions that leverage data to drive value to automotive shoppers and dealers. We work with stakeholders in Product and Engineering teams, as well as Marketing and Revenue. We take machine learning models from the prototyping stage into production and own products in the form of APIs and data pipelines. We have regular meetings to talk shop, share our approaches, and ask questions. We make space to discuss open-ended business problems, best development practices, and exciting research papers. We support each other in our professional growth, and foster an environment of open collaboration! This is a full-time, paid, Summer 2025 Intern position. Only students currently enrolled in a full time undergraduate or graduate program will be considered. Must be eligible to work 40 hours a week from June 2025 - August 2025. We are a hybrid environment and employees should anticipate working from our Boston, MA office approximately 2-3 days per week. What you’ll do You’ll work closely with data scientists and ML engineers to support the efforts of the team by prototyping models, building enhancements to our ML platform, or helping to build out data pipelines and services. Depending on the projects available and your interests, there will be opportunities within all of the team’s focus areas. Potential projects include: Enhance our AWS-hosted Machine Learning platform with new functionality. Prototype ML and AI models in Python and deploy them into cloud services via our ML platform. Write SQL to preprocess and pull data in Snowflake, working with tools like DBT. Build demo apps and dashboards in Streamlit to help stakeholders better understand the performance of existing models or products, and help drive business decisions. What you'll bring Bachelor's or Master's student from a computer science, mathematics, or other quantitative background. Exposure to SQL and Python for data manipulation and ML modeling. Prior software development experience is preferred. Enjoys working on problems that have real business impact. Desire to gain working experience on an applied Data Science and Machine Learning team.
