Job Summary:

A commercial banking intern for relationship management and sales provides critical support to senior bankers in growing and maintaining client portfolios. This role typically focuses on market research, sales preparation, and basic financial analysis to help identify new business opportunities.

Core Responsibilities

  • Sales & Business Development Support: Assist the sales team in generating leads, identifying potential prospects through tools like LinkedIn or industry publications, and maintaining prospect lists.
  • Market & Industry Research: Conduct research on market trends, competitor activity, and specific client backgrounds to provide insights for investor engagement strategies.
  • Presentation Preparation: Help create marketing materials, introductory pitch decks, and sales proposals for prospect meetings.
  • Client Relationship Management (CRM): Maintain and update client information within bank systems (e.g., Salesforce, nCino) to ensure data accuracy for the relationship team.
  • Financial Analysis Support: Observe the credit underwriting process and assist in gathering/organizing financial statements and invoices for portfolio reviews.
  • Meeting Participation: Shadow senior Relationship Managers (RMs) in client meetings, pre-call planning, and internal strategy sessions.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Analytical Skills: Strong ability to analyze data, research industries, and possess a high attention to detail for financial reporting.
  • Communication: Excellent verbal and written skills are required for drafting client communications and internal presentations.
  • Technical Proficiency: Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (especially Excel and PowerPoint) is essential. Familiarity with banking software or CRM tools is a plus.
  • Interpersonal Skills: A proactive, self-motivated attitude with the ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced team environment.

Educational Requirements

  • Degree Program: Usually requires enrollment in a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree program, typically as a rising junior or senior.
  • Preferred Majors: Business Administration, Finance, Accounting, Economics, or Marketing.
  • Academic Performance: Many programs require a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher.

Foundational Knowledge: A basic understanding of accounting principles and banking functions is often required.
