About the role

JOB SUMMARY

Under the direction of the Campus Printing & Design Manager, the Campus Print & Design Associate is responsible for making copies, binding, laminating, mounting, printing business cards, and other customer order products.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  1. Assist customers with their purchases at the registers.
  2. Responsible for making copies, binding, laminating, mounting, printing business cards, making stamps, creating course packets and ordering custom products.
  3. Operate black & white copiers, color copiers, desktop graphic art printers, laminators, PCs, iMac computers and large-format poster plotters.
  4. Troubleshoot equipment, including clearing copier paper jams, changing ink cartridges, toner, and occasionally communicating technical issues to copier technical support.
  5. Orders supplies and coordinates marketing materials for monthly sales.
  6. Performs other duties as assigned, reasonably within the scope of the job.

Work Schedule

Work shifts will be assigned during regular University Bookstore operating hours, which are typically Monday through Saturday from 7:00am to 7:00pm. Shifts may vary to include mornings, afternoons, and evenings. The work schedule is aligned with the CSULB Academic Calendar, with peak activity during academic semesters and reduced hours during academic breaks, depending on operational needs. The employee must provide a minimum of 12 hours of availability during academic semesters. 

Physical Demands

The employee will frequently need to move boxes, unpack inventory and move production inventory. The employee must frequently be able to lift and/or move a minimum of 50 pounds. There will be long periods of time standing on their feet and moving around in a large building, and the employee will be occasionally required to sit, climb, balance, bend at the waist, push or pull, reach above shoulder level, stoop, and kneel. Some use of ladders to ascend/descend is occasionally required. The employee must comply with the University’s rules and regulations as well as the Beach Shops.

Work Environment

The employee is typically in a climate-controlled indoor environment and production environment. The noise level in the work environment is moderate to noisy. There is typically exposure to chemicals such as toner, dust and vapors. Exposure to hot machinery, such as laminators, shrink wrap, copiers, etc. Occasionally the work environment will have high customer traffic at the beginning of each new semester, during sales, and other events. 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education and/or experience

The employee must be a current and active CSULB student enrolled in a minimum of 6 units. Preference will be given to students in the BFA Graphic Design program. Previous cashiering experience is preferred but not required. 

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

This position does not require any certificates, licenses or registrations. 

Knowledge and Abilities

The employee must be able to operate a variety of copy center machines and demonstrate proficiency in both written and verbal communication in English. Strong interpersonal and communication skills are essential, along with a commitment to providing excellent customer service.
