Job Purpose

Air India is looking for a Rule Engine Expert to strengthen its CAE Crew Manager (CM) capability. The role will focus on designing, configuring, validating, and maintaining the Rules Engine within CAE CM to ensure 100% compliance with DGCA CAR regulations, internal policies, and operational requirements for both Flight Deck (FD) and Cabin Crew (CC).

The expert will collaborate closely with Flight Ops, IOCC, CCD, CAE teams, and Digital Technology to ensure accurate rule implementation, end‑to‑end traceability, and robust governance across all crew management workflows.

Key Responsibilities

1. Rule Design & Configuration

  • Translate DGCA CAR, RISD definitions, internal policies, and airline-specific constraints into CAE CM rule logic.
  • Configure rule parameters, alert messages, and dependencies within the CAE CM environment.
  • Ensure rules are mapped accurately across CAR → RISD → CAE CM with full traceability.

2. Rule Validation & Testing

  • Conduct completeness & correctness validation of rules configured in CAE CM.
  • Develop exhaustive test scenarios, including corner and edge cases, to ensure zero deviations.
  • Perform regression testing after every rule change or system upgrade.
  • Analyse rule alerts (violations, buffer issues, spurious alerts) and ensure their correctness.

3. Compliance & Governance

  • Ensure all regulatory requirements are fully implemented and remain up to date.
  • Support impact analysis for rule changes, version upgrades, and configuration updates.
  • Maintain documentation of rule logic, validations, overrides, dependencies, and assumptions.

4. Collaboration with CAE & Internal Stakeholders

  • Work with CAE SMEs to troubleshoot rule-related issues and validate post-deployment behaviour.
  • Partner with T&Q, Flight Ops, CCD, IOCC, and Digital Tech for rule requirement sign‑off.
  • Participate in mock runs, CERT validations, and production rollout cycles.

5. Data & Roster Integrity

  • Validate aggregates, qualifications, roster constraints, FDP/DPH calculations, and system‑stored values impacted by rules.
  • Identify data quality issues caused by rules and coordinate fixes with CAE/DT teams.

Required Skills & Experience

Technical Skills

  • Strong understanding of CAE Crew Manager (CM) rule configuration framework.
  • Experience in rule engines used in crew rostering / crew management systems (CAE CM preferred).
  • Proficiency in logic building, rule parameterization, and dependency mapping.
  • Strong analytical skills for interpreting regulatory texts and converting them into executable logic.
  • Hands‑on experience with validation environments (CERT1 / CERT2), mock runs, and regression suites.

Functional Skills

  • Deep understanding of DGCA CAR regulations, FDP/DPH definitions, crew rest rules, training rules, qualification validity, etc.
  • Knowledge of airline crew operations, rostering processes, IOCC workflows, and regulatory audits.
  • Ability to work with cross‑functional teams and navigate complex operational dependencies.

Experience & Qualifications

  • 5–10 years of experience in Crew Management Systems, preferably with CAE CM.
  • Prior experience in rule engine development or CAE Rules SME roles is highly desirable.
  • Exposure to regulatory compliance (DGCA / EASA / FAA) for crew scheduling is an advantage.

Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Aviation Technology, or equivalent.
