Job Title: CAE Analyst – Body and Frames
Job Description
This role focuses on performing advanced computer-aided engineering (CAE) analyses for automotive body and frame structures. You will use tools such as HyperMesh, Nastran, Abaqus, and fatigue solvers to evaluate strength, stiffness, and fatigue performance of sheet metal and welded assemblies. The position requires strong mechanical engineering fundamentals, hands-on experience in structural analysis, and the ability to collaborate effectively with both internal teams and external stakeholders.
Responsibilities
- Perform strength analysis of automotive body and frame components using Abaqus.
- Conduct static fatigue analysis for sheet metal and seam welds using appropriate fatigue solvers such as Ncode, FEMFAT, or FE-Safe.
- Carry out dynamic fatigue analysis for sheet metal and seam welds using suitable fatigue analysis tools.
- Execute preload analysis to evaluate the effects of preloaded joints and connections in assemblies.
- Perform stiffness analysis using Nastran to assess structural rigidity and deformation characteristics.
- Conduct frequency response analysis using Nastran to evaluate dynamic behavior under harmonic loading conditions.
- Carry out transient response analysis using Nastran to study time-dependent structural responses.
- Build, review, and refine finite element (FE) models to ensure accuracy, quality, and correlation with physical behavior.
- Coordinate tasks within the project team, ensuring timely completion of assigned analysis activities.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand design requirements and provide CAE-based design recommendations.
- Communicate analysis results clearly to customers and internal teams, including interpretation of findings and proposed improvements.
- Apply strong knowledge of strength of materials to interpret analysis results and ensure robust and reliable designs.
- Utilize domain knowledge of automotive components and their connections to develop realistic models and boundary conditions.
Essential Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (B.E – Mechanical).
- 4 to 6 years of experience in CAE analysis or a closely related mechanical engineering role.
- Proficiency in HyperMesh for finite element pre-processing, including meshing and model setup (HyperMesh is strongly preferred).
- Hands-on experience with Nastran for stiffness analysis and transient response analysis.
- Hands-on experience with Abaqus for strength analysis and preload analysis.
- Experience using fatigue solvers such as Ncode or FEMFAT for sheet metal fatigue evaluation.
- Experience using FE-Safe, Ncode, or FEMFAT for weld fatigue analysis.
- Strong domain knowledge in finite element (FE) model review and validation.
- Good understanding of automobile components and the connections between assemblies.
- Solid knowledge of strength of materials and structural mechanics.
- Effective task coordination skills to manage multiple analysis activities.
- Good communication skills for interacting with customers and internal teams.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience in CAE environments involving Abaqus, Nastran, and related CAE tools.
- In analyzing sheet metal structures and seam welds in automotive applications.
- Ability to interpret and communicate complex CAE results in a clear and concise manner.
- Experience working in collaborative, project-based engineering teams.
