Job Responsibilities
Data Management and Preparation
- Data Sourcing & Integration: Identifying and connecting to various data sources, including databases (SQL, BigQuery), data warehouses, cloud services (Google Cloud), and flat files.
- ETL/ELT Development: Designing, building, and maintaining Extract, Transform, Load (ETL) or Extract, Load, Transform (ELT) pipelines to move and prepare data for analysis.
- Data Modelling: Structuring and organising data into logical models within a data warehouse or data mart to optimise for performance and reporting.
- Data Quality and Cleansing: Ensuring data accuracy, completeness, and consistency by identifying and resolving errors, duplicates, and discrepancies.
Analysis and Reporting
- Data Analysis: Analysing data to identify trends, patterns, and anomalies. Answering key business questions through exploratory data analysis.
- Report and Dashboard Development: Designing, developing, and deploying interactive dashboards and reports using BI tools like Tableau, Power BI, Qlik, or Looker Studio.
- KPI and Metric Tracking: Working with business stakeholders to define Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and developing reports to track them against company goals.
- Ad-Hoc Reporting: Fulfilling specific data requests from business users and management to support immediate decision-making needs.
Technical and System Management
- BI Tool Administration: Managing the BI platform, including user access.
- Database Querying: Writing complex SQL queries to retrieve and manipulate data from relational databases.
- Performance Optimisation: Monitoring and improving the performance of BI dashboards, reports, and underlying data queries.
Collaboration and Strategy
- Stakeholder Collaboration: Working closely with various departments (e.g., Sales, Marketing, Finance, Operations) to understand their needs and deliver relevant insights.
- Requirements Gathering: Translating business requirements into technical specifications for BI solutions.
- Data Storytelling: Communicating complex findings and insights clearly and concisely to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Training and Support: Providing training and support to end-users to help them effectively use BI tools and dashboards.
- Strategic Planning: Contributing to the overall BI strategy and data governance policies of the organisation.
