Position Overview:
The Business Head - Sourcing for the Denim Category is responsible for leading the end-to-end sourcing strategy
and operations for denim products. This senior role focuses on identifying, developing, and managing suppliers to
ensure the highest quality, cost-effectiveness, and timely delivery of denim products. The ideal candidate will have
deep expertise in denim sourcing, a strong network of denim suppliers, and experience in managing complex
supply chains in the apparel industry.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Sourcing Strategy and Planning:
- Develop and implement a strategic sourcing plan for the denim category, focusing on quality, cost, and lead time.
- Align sourcing strategies with overall business objectives, ensuring a consistent and reliable supply chain.
- Establish short-term and long-term sourcing goals that support sustainable and ethical practices.
2. Supplier Development and Management:
- Identify, evaluate, and establish partnerships with denim suppliers to ensure quality, cost-efficiency, and timely delivery.
- Negotiate contracts, terms, and pricing agreements with suppliers, securing the best possible terms while fostering strong relationships.
- Conduct regular performance evaluations and audits of suppliers to ensure compliance with quality standards and social responsibility.
3. Cost Optimization and Budget Management:
- Drive cost-saving initiatives through effective negotiation, vendor selection, and resource management without compromising quality.
- Develop and manage budgets for denim sourcing, ensuring alignment with company financial goals.
- Monitor material costs and identify opportunities to reduce expenses and improve margins.
4. Quality Assurance and Compliance:
- Work closely with the quality control team to ensure denim products meet industry standards and brand specifications.
- Implement and enforce quality control processes and conduct regular inspections at production sites.
- Ensure compliance with international trade regulations, environmental standards, and ethical sourcing practices.
5. Cross-Functional Collaboration:
- Partner with design, merchandising, and production teams to understand denim requirements and production timelines.
- Collaborate with the logistics and supply chain teams to ensure smooth transportation and delivery of sourced materials.
- Coordinate with finance and legal teams to ensure alignment on contract management, budgeting, and compliance.
6. Market Research and Trend Analysis:
- Stay updated on denim industry trends, raw material prices, and advancements in production technology.
- Research and evaluate new sourcing opportunities, including sustainable and eco-friendly denim solutions.
- Provide insights and recommendations to the senior leadership team on denim sourcing trends
and market dynamics.
7. Sustainability and Innovation in Sourcing:
- Lead initiatives to source sustainable materials and adopt eco-friendly practices within the denim supply chain.
- Introduce innovative sourcing methods to enhance product quality, reduce environmental impact, and align with brand values.
- Partner with suppliers to explore alternative production techniques, including water-saving and low-impact dyeing processes.
8. Data Analysis and Reporting:
- Use data analytics to make informed sourcing decisions and improve cost efficiency, supplier performance, and lead times.
- Prepare regular reports and presentations on sourcing performance, cost analysis, and supplier
- Identify and implement digital tools to streamline sourcing operations and improve decision-making.
9. Team Leadership and Development:
- Lead and mentor a team of sourcing professionals, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and accountability.
- Provide training and development opportunities to enhance the team's expertise in denim sourcing and supply chain management.
- Drive collaboration and effective communication within the sourcing team and across departments.
Qualifications and Skills:
- Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, Textile Engineering, or a related
- field; MBA or advanced degree preferred.
- 10+ years of experience in sourcing, with at least 5 years focused on the denim category in the apparel
- industry.
- Strong network of denim suppliers and proven experience managing global supply chains for denim.
- Excellent negotiation, communication, and relationship management skills.
- Proficiency in ERP systems and sourcing tools; familiarity with digital sourcing platforms is a plus.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with sustainable sourcing practices and knowledge of environmental and social governance (ESG) in the supply chain.
- Familiarity with international trade regulations, tariffs, and compliance requirements specific to the denim industry.
- Knowledge of innovative denim technologies, such as sustainable dyeing processes and eco-friendly finishing techniques.
