Role Overview
Sumip Composites Private Limited is looking for a proactive, commercially driven, and result-oriented Business Development / Inside Sales professional to strengthen our market presence and drive new business opportunities across industrial sectors.
The role will focus on identifying prospective customers, generating and qualifying leads, understanding technical requirements, positioning the right GRP solutions, and consistently following opportunities through the sales cycle.
The candidate will work with Sumip's portfolio of GRP/FRP products and engineered solutions, including Cable Management Systems, Lighting Poles, Enclosures, Junction Boxes, Distribution Boards, GRP Profiles, Gratings, and other electrical, instrumentation, and infrastructure solutions.
We are looking for someone who can go beyond generating leads—someone who can build conversations, identify opportunities, develop relationships, and contribute directly to revenue growth.
Key Responsibilities1. Lead Generation & New Business Development
- Identify and develop new business opportunities across relevant industrial sectors and geographical markets.
- Generate qualified leads through market research, online platforms, LinkedIn, industry databases, cold calling, email outreach, networking, exhibitions, and other business development channels.
- Identify key decision-makers, consultants, EPC contractors, OEMs, distributors, project companies, and end users relevant to Sumip's product portfolio.
- Build and continuously expand a structured database of prospective customers and opportunities.
- Proactively approach new accounts rather than relying solely on incoming enquiries.
2. Customer Requirement & Opportunity Qualification
- Engage with prospective customers to understand their technical requirements, applications, project specifications, quantities, timelines, and commercial expectations.
- Qualify opportunities based on project potential, application suitability, decision-making process, competition, and probability of conversion.
- Identify opportunities where conventional materials or existing solutions can be converted to suitable GRP alternatives.
- Understand the customer's challenges and position Sumip's solutions based on application-specific advantages.
3. Product & Technical Selling
- Develop strong technical and application knowledge of Sumip's product portfolio.
- Clearly communicate product features, advantages, specifications, applications, and value propositions to customers.
- Conduct product presentations and demonstrations for prospective customers.
- Respond to initial technical queries and coordinate with Design, Proposal, Production, Quality, and other technical teams for detailed requirements.
- Position products based on customer requirements rather than following a generic product-selling approach.
4. Enquiry, Proposal & Quotation Management
- Convert qualified discussions into formal enquiries and RFQs.
- Coordinate with the Proposal and technical teams for preparation of accurate techno-commercial quotations and proposals.
- Ensure customer requirements are communicated clearly to internal departments.
- Track quotations and proposals after submission and maintain visibility on the status of each opportunity.
- Coordinate revisions, technical clarifications, commercial discussions, and additional documentation required during the sales process.
5. Follow-Up, Negotiation & Conversion
- Take ownership of opportunities from initial contact through enquiry, quotation, negotiation, and order closure.
- Maintain structured and consistent follow-ups with customers.
- Understand reasons for delays, objections, or non-conversion and take appropriate action.
- Support commercial negotiations while protecting the company's pricing and business interests.
- Work towards improving enquiry-to-order conversion rates.
- Re-engage dormant leads and previously quoted customers to identify new opportunities.
6. Sales Targets & Pipeline Management
- Work towards defined monthly, quarterly, and annual sales targets.
- Build and maintain a healthy sales pipeline across different stages of the sales cycle.
- Prioritize high-potential opportunities and maintain appropriate follow-up frequency.
- Maintain visibility on expected closures and provide realistic sales forecasts.
- Take accountability for individual business development targets and contribution to overall company growth.
7. Customer Relationship Management
- Build strong and long-term relationships with existing and prospective customers.
- Maintain regular communication with key accounts to identify upcoming projects and requirements.
- Explore opportunities for repeat orders, cross-selling, and introduction of additional Sumip product categories.
- Ensure professional and timely responses to customer communication throughout the sales process.
- Develop relationships beyond individual enquiries to create long-term account potential.
8. Market & Competitor Intelligence
- Monitor competitor products, pricing trends, market positioning, and customer preferences.
- Identify emerging industries, projects, applications, and geographical markets relevant to Sumip's portfolio.
- Gather market feedback and communicate relevant insights to Sales, Marketing, Product Development, and Management teams.
- Identify potential gaps in the market and recommend opportunities for new products, applications, or customer segments.
9. CRM, MIS & Sales Reporting
- Maintain accurate and updated records of leads, enquiries, quotations, follow-ups, customer interactions, and opportunities in the CRM.
- Ensure every opportunity has a clearly defined status and next action.
- Prepare regular MIS reports covering lead generation, enquiries, pipeline value, quotations, conversions, pending opportunities, and lost business.
- Track reasons for won and lost opportunities to support continuous improvement.
- Maintain disciplined documentation and reporting of sales activities.
10. Internal Coordination
- Work closely with the Proposal, Design, Production, Planning, Purchase, Quality, Marketing, Finance, and Dispatch teams wherever required.
- Coordinate internally to ensure customer commitments regarding technical requirements, documentation, delivery, and commercial terms are realistic and clearly communicated.
- Ensure a smooth handover of confirmed orders to the relevant execution teams.
- Support marketing and exhibition initiatives by providing market and customer insights.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Instrumentation Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
- MBA in Marketing, Sales, or Business Development will be an added advantage.

- Experience in the Electrical & Instrumentation, Engineering, Manufacturing, GRP/FRP, Infrastructure, EPC, or related industrial sector will be preferred.
