About Thumbstack
Thumbstack is a design-first technology studio based in Mumbai. We work with businesses in India and internationally to design and build websites, e-commerce platforms, mobile applications, and custom digital products.
We are now building our business development function and are looking for an intern who can help us create a focused, consistent, and research-driven outbound sales process.
About the Role
As a Business Development Intern, you will work closely with the founders and management team to identify prospective clients, initiate relevant conversations, and create qualified business opportunities for Thumbstack.
This is not a mass-messaging role. You will be expected to research companies, understand their business and digital presence, identify where Thumbstack may be able to help, and communicate that clearly through personalised outreach.
The role is suitable for someone who is confident speaking with professionals, comfortable with consistent follow-ups, curious about different businesses, and interested in learning how B2B technology and digital services are sold.
Key Responsibilities
- Research target industries, companies, and decision-makers using LinkedIn Sales Navigator and other relevant sources.
- Build and maintain a structured database of qualified prospects.
- Study each prospect’s business, website, digital products, and potential requirements before contacting them.
- Write personalised outreach messages for LinkedIn and email.
- Contact prospects through LinkedIn, email, and, where appropriate, outbound calls.
- Qualify interested prospects based on their requirements, business fit, expected timelines, and potential opportunity.
- Schedule qualified introductory meetings for the founders or relevant team members.
- Learn and communicate Thumbstack’s services, portfolio, case studies, and differentiators accurately.
- Prepare simple outreach presentations, capability decks, proposals, and supporting material using Canva or similar tools.
- Maintain accurate records of prospecting activities, conversations, follow-ups, and outcomes in the CRM.
- Follow up consistently and professionally with prospects across the sales cycle.
- Participate in weekly reviews to evaluate outreach quality, responses, objections, and pipeline progress.
- Help document and improve Thumbstack’s lead-generation and outreach processes as the BD function develops.
What We Are Looking For
- Pursuing or recently completed a bachelor’s degree in business, marketing, communications, management, or a related field.
- Strong written and spoken English.
- Confidence in initiating conversations with founders, business owners, marketing leaders, and other decision-makers.
- Ability to research companies and understand their business before reaching out.
- Clear, professional, and personalised writing skills.
- Curiosity, active listening, and the ability to ask relevant questions.
- Persistence and comfort with following up without being overly aggressive.
- Strong organisation and attention to detail.
- Ability to work with targets and maintain consistent daily activity.
- Basic proficiency with Google Workspace or Microsoft Office.
- Willingness to work from our Worli office for the complete internship period.
Preferred Skills
The following are useful but not mandatory:
- Familiarity with LinkedIn Sales Navigator.
- Previous internship, freelance, or project experience in business development, sales, customer success, digital marketing, or client servicing.
- Basic understanding of B2B sales and lead qualification.
- Experience writing cold emails or LinkedIn outreach messages.
- Comfort with outbound calls.
- Basic knowledge of Canva or presentation-design tools.
- Experience working with a CRM or lead-tracking system.
- Interest in websites, e-commerce, product design, mobile applications, or digital technology services.
What You Will Learn
- How a digital technology studio identifies and approaches prospective clients.
- How to research accounts and qualify business opportunities.
- How to write effective and relevant B2B outreach.
- How to communicate digital services to non-technical decision-makers.
- How to manage prospects and follow-ups through a structured CRM workflow.
- How sales conversations, discovery meetings, proposals, and follow-ups work in a services business.
- How an early-stage business development function is designed, tested, and improved.
Assessment Period
The first 15 days will form a paid assessment period and are included within the three-month internship.
During this period, we will evaluate:
- Research quality
- Written and verbal communication
- Understanding of Thumbstack’s services
- Outreach quality
- Consistency and follow-through
- Responsiveness to feedback
- Professionalism and team fit
Continuation beyond the assessment period will depend on satisfactory performance against these criteria.
Full-Time Opportunity
Interns who consistently demonstrate strong performance, ownership, professionalism, and the ability to generate qualified business opportunities may be considered for a full-time Business Development Executive position after completing the internship.
Any full-time offer will depend on individual performance, role availability, and Thumbstack’s business requirements.
Who Should Apply?
This role is suited to someone who:
- Enjoys researching businesses and speaking with new people.
- Is comfortable initiating conversations and handling rejection.
- Can communicate confidently without sounding scripted or aggressive.
- Takes ownership of follow-ups and commitments.
- Wants practical exposure to B2B sales rather than a purely theoretical internship.
- Is interested in helping build a business development function from an early stage.
Application Process
Please submit your resume along with short responses to the following:
- Identify one company that could potentially benefit from Thumbstack’s services and explain why.
- Write a short LinkedIn message you would send to a relevant decision-maker at that company.
- Briefly describe any previous experience involving sales, outreach, client communication, research, or lead generation.
