Burns & McDonnell is searching for an Assistant Department Manager to help lead our growing Drinking Water department in Denver, CO. This position will report to the Department Manager in Denver and assist with the strategic development, leadership and profitability of the Drinking Water team. This position will build upon our existing MTN team to grow the department dynamically and profitably based on Burns & McDonnell’s core values of client satisfaction, commitment, dedication, integrity, safety and overall outstanding service.
Responsibilities include:
- Advocating for safety within the group.
- Working closely with the Department Manager to identify and develop long-term goals and strategies for the department’s growth/profitability.
- Performing business development for the MTN Drinking Water team.
- Providing for the growth of the department including recruitment, development, and retention of staff.
- Owning the performance management process for assistant/intern level staff and conducting annual performance appraisals.
- Serving as a technical advisor providing input and evaluation on projects in the region.
- Organizing projects and proper staffing to ensure guidelines for their successful execution are followed per company guidelines and standards.
- Monitoring and managing the allocation of staff resources to meet or exceed time chargeability goals and project deliverables.
- Collaborating with the Department Manager to monitor financials for drinking water projects with a focus on maintaining profitability through established metrics.
- Participating in the annual business planning process.
- Collaborating with the Department Manager to meet sales and profitability goals to be established through annual business planning.
- Working with other Water Practice Department Managers and Assistant Department Managers to form a cohesive group with regards to staff
- utilization, project execution, and overall synergy.
- Supporting departmental initiatives and requirements.
- Bachelor Degree in engineering, architecture, construction or related degree from accredited program and 5 years related professional experience in design and/or project management required.
- Master Degree preferred.
- Experience managing drinking water engineering projects is strongly preferred.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred.
- Previous leadership and/or management experience is preferable.
- Must demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills, strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to clearly and effectively present complex information to all levels of employees, management, and clients.
- Position requires the ability to thoughtfully and positively influence, lead, and manage change.
- Must possess strong project management skills and a strategic perspective.
- Must be expert in the use of computer software (i.e., Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
