Duties
You will use new technology and methodology to detect and quantify drugs and their metabolites in urine and other matrices.,You will use specialized physical and chemical means to prepare samples for analysis, loading and unloading samples on instrumentation and evaluate resulting analytical data.,You will perform daily maintenance, operation, and upkeep of new analytical instrumentation.,You will review, evaluate, and interpret laboratory test results for reporting purposes.,You will provide advice on complex technical problems and participate in internal and external Quality Assurance programs.
Qualifications
In addition to the Basic Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-07 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Experience handling evidentiary samples, performing precise pipetting and maintaining strict chain-of-custody protocols. Experience troubleshooting complex analytical systems such as, chromatography and mass spectrometry instruments. Experience documenting standard operating procedures. Experience collaborating with multidisciplinary teams and articulating scientific findings in official reports. Education
Applicants must meet the following positive education qualifications requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualifications Standards Manual: Applicants must posses: Degree: physical sciences, life sciences, or engineering that included 30 semester hours in chemistry, supplemented by course work in mathematics through differential and integral calculus, and at least 6 semester hours of physics. OR Combination of education and experience -- course work equivalent to a major as shown above, including at least 30 semester hours in chemistry, supplemented by mathematics through differential and integral calculus, and at least 6 semester hours of physics, plus appropriate experience or additional education. Applicants may substitute specialized experience for education below: 2 years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a master's degree OR Master's or equivalent graduate degree OR A combination of experience and education as described above that equates to one year of experience.
