Position Summary
The Pet Crematory Operator is responsible for the respectful and proper handling, processing, and cremation of deceased animals. This position plays a critical role in supporting shelter operations and providing compassionate service to the community. The operator ensures all procedures are performed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with applicable regulations and City policies.
Position Duties
Key Responsibilities
· Operate and maintain the cremation unit in accordance with manufacturer guidelines and safety standards
· Perform intake, tracking, and identification of animals prior to cremation
· Ensure respectful handling of all animals at all times
· Maintain accurate records and documentation for each cremation
· Monitor equipment performance and report any malfunctions or maintenance needs
· Clean and maintain the crematory area and equipment
· Follow all safety protocols, including proper use of PPE
· Customer-facing duties (meeting grieving pet owners)
· Ash packaging, urn handling, memorial products
· Pickup/delivery from vet clinics
Minimum Qualifications
Qualifications
· High school diploma or equivalent required
· Certified Pet Crematory Operator Certificate, Preferred or provided after hire
· Experience in animal care, veterinary services, or crematory operations preferred
· Ability to follow detailed procedures and maintain accurate records
· Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
· Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
· Must be able to handle sensitive situations with professionalism and respect
· Must be 18 years or older

Physical Requirements:
Ability to lift and move up to 75 lbs without assistance· Ability to stand, bend, and work in a physically demanding environment· Comfortable working in high-temperature environments and around mechanical equipment
Work Environment:
Exposure to deceased animals and related materials· Exposure to heat, noise, and odors associated with crematory operations· Use of protective equipment required· Extreme Heat inside the building during operating hours· Working days, nights, weekends· May be exposed to sensitive materials
