SUMMARY:
The Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant reports directly to the Clinical Manager and/ or Assistant Clinical Manager (ACM) of their respective department, and practices under the general supervision of a licensed Occupational Therapist. The Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant is responsible for individual and group treatment programs designed to assist patients of all ages with various cognitive, perceptual, behavioral, and physical disabilities to optimize their highest level of functioning in activities of daily living, in accordance with the plan of care established by the Occupational Therapist.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Independently executes patient treatment program to achieve goals established by the patient and their occupational therapist within the established plan of care
Assists occupational therapist in gathering objective data for functional assessments and areas of occupational performance
Consults with occupational therapist to progress patients to desired outcomes, using appropriate treatment interventions
Demonstrates competence in use of therapeutic interventions specific to patient population
Monitors patient response to therapeutic intervention and adjusts treatment as appropriate
Consults with occupational therapist to progress patients to desired outcomes
Provides feedback to occupational therapist regarding patient goals and treatment plan
Consults with occupational therapist regarding patient needs/ referrals/ consults
Notifies occupational therapist of need for patient reassessment or reevaluation
Educates and trains patient/ caregivers, within the plan of care
Completes documentation and charges accurately and timely, in compliance with department policy
Works as a member of the interdisciplinary team to support departmental and patient needs
Seeks additional guidance when necessary to ensure safe and effective patient care
Participates in strategic departmental quality improvement initiatives

Communicates clearly, respectfully, and honestly with patients and/or caregivers, and colleagues
Adjusts communication and response to the level of understanding of the listener
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
EXPERIENCE:
New graduates will be considered. Clinical experience in program specific settings preferred.
INDEPENDENT ACTION:
Performs independently within department policies, practices, and protocols of patient treatment
Refers specific complex problems to Occupational Therapist/ ACM and/or Clinical Manager when clarification of departmental policies and procedures may be required
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:
No direct supervision. However, pursuant to the state of Rhode Island Rules and Regulations for Licensing Occupational Therapy Assistants, a licensed occupational therapy assistant may be responsible for the supervision of supportive personnel and students to ensure the safety and welfare of patients.
Pay Range:
$25.51-$42.09
