TITLE: Business Intelligence Developer (6-month contract-to-hire role)

OVERVIEW

The Business Intelligence Developer will help design and deliver end-to-end analytics solutions that empower decision-making across Operations and IT. This is an exciting opportunity to work with large, diverse datasets and transform raw information into actionable insights. The ideal candidate will be a hands-on technologist with a strong grasp of data modeling, visualization, and business analysis.


RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Model raw data into structured datasets using the medallion architecture for scalable analytics.
  • Write, validate, and optimize complex SQL queries to extract, transform, and load (ETL) data for reporting purposes.
  • Design and build interactive dashboards and data visualizations in Tableau using best practices for speed-to-insight and usability.
  • Apply information design principles to improve clarity, engagement, and impact of dashboards and reports.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand business needs and translate them into technical solutions.
  • Conduct in-depth data analysis to identify trends, anomalies, and performance drivers - present findings to stakeholders with clear recommendations.
  • Build automated data pipelines and reporting processes to reduce manual effort and ensure data accuracy.
  • Maintain and enhance data warehouse solutions, ensuring scalability, performance, and data quality.
  • Support ad hoc and exploratory data needs from Operations and IT teams using tools like SQL, Tableau, and Excel.
  • Uphold data governance and stewardship best practices, ensuring accuracy, security, and compliance in all BI work.
  • Document processes, data sources, and logic to enable collaboration and future enhancements.


EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

  • 2–5 years of experience in a Business Intelligence, Data Analyst, or Data Engineering role.
  • Proficient in data warehousing concepts, dimensional modeling, and ETL processes.
  • Advanced SQL skills with the ability to work with large, complex datasets.
  • Demonstrated experience building advanced dashboards and visualizations in Tableau.
  • Strong understanding of data visualization principles and user-centered design.
  • Familiarity with medallion architecture or similar modern data architecture frameworks.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with attention to detail.
  • Experience working with both structured and semi-structured data (e.g., JSON, XML).
  • Ability to work independently and validate complex data logic with minimal oversight.
  • Understanding of data stewardship and governance practices.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; able to explain technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel for lightweight analysis and ad hoc data exploration.
  • Experience with scripting (e.g., Python, R) or cloud platforms (e.g., Snowflake, Azure, AWS) is a plus.
