Brethren Village Retirement Community, in Lititz, PA, is seeking a Wellness Coordinator / Fitness Instructor for full-time employment. The ideal candidate will have experience, and enjoy, interacting with and supporting older adults.
The Wellness Coordinator / Fitness Instructor works cooperatively with our small Wellness team to maintain a robust health and wellness program for Residents. The Wellness team provides services to Residents who live independently at Brethren Village, and Residents in our Personal Care and Skilled Nursing areas. The Wellness Coordinator / Fitness Instructor supports aging-in-place initiatives and assists Residents to maintain mobility, balance, strength, and an overall sense of well-being through appropriate fitness activities.
The Wellness Coordinator / Fitness Instructor develops and implements health and wellness programs; plans and coordinates wellness activities; schedules and safely conducts a variety of fitness classes for Residents, including Residents with cognitive or physical limitations; supervises Residents in fitness areas to help ensure their safe use of equipment.
The Fitness Instructor must be able to safely teach / lead fitness classes and demonstrate a variety of exercises, using fitness equipment, throughout an 8-hour work day. Frequent standing, walking, and lifting fitness equipment is required.
Work Hours
- Full-time, benefits-eligible: 40 hours per week, typically 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, on-site
Requirements
Core Requirements:
- a high school diploma or G.E.D.
- basic computer skills: the ability to access and navigate web sites, and use software, apps, and databases independently
- the ability to complete online training independently
- dependability: ability and willingness to meet attendance standards
- attention to safety: ability and willingness to consistently work in a safe and alert manner, and to report to work fit for duty; commitment to wearing protective equipment as required for the position and adhering to all health and safety standards
- commitment to treating each Resident, Team Member, and member of the Brethren Village community with respect
Additional Requirements for This Position:
- at least 1 year of professional or volunteer experience conducting group fitness classes
- prior experience working or interacting with older adults in an employment or professional setting, and comfort doing so
- valid First Aid, CPR, and AED certifications, or be willing and able to obtain certification shortly after hire
- preferred certifications: AEA, ACSM, or ACE
- an understanding of the aging process and fitness activities suitable for an older adult population
- a thorough understanding of how to safely perform exercises, for all fitness levels, and how to safely use various pieces of fitness equipment
- experience and effectiveness planning, coordinating, leading, and evaluating programs and activities
- effective interpersonal and communication skills; comfort speaking in front of groups and with older adults; comfort leading group activities
- the ability to respond in a calm and appropriate manner in an emergency situation
- the ability to safely: lift and move fitness equipment, stand and walk frequently during the work day, conduct a variety of fitness classes
