Brethren Village Retirement Community, in Lititz, PA, is seeking a Therapeutic Recreation Associate for our Skilled Nursing Facility. This is a great opportunity for a qualified individual seeking experience in a healthcare environment and who will enjoy interacting with an older adult population.
The Therapeutic Recreation Associate helps coordinate a variety of fitness, recreation, and social activities for older adult Residents, to enhance their physical, emotional, and cognitive well-being. The Therapeutic Recreation Associate helps plan, schedule, lead, and evaluate activities for Residents, including Residents with cognitive and/or physical limitations, based on each Resident's needs and preferences. The Associate leads group activities, and conducts one-to-one activities with Residents. The Therapeutic Recreation Associate also evaluates and accurately documents health status, following standard protocols. The Therapeutic Recreation Associate works cooperatively with Certified Nurse Aides, Nurses, and other Therapeutic Recreation staff to meet the needs of each Resident.
The ability to safely push adult Residents in wheelchairs; lift and move fitness equipment; push equipment carts; stand and walk frequently during the shift; and work outdoors on occasion is required.
Work Schedule
- Full-time, benefits-eligible: 40 hours per week, on-site, including some early evenings and occasional Saturdays and Sundays during the day (Brethren Village provides an extra $1.00 per hour for weekend work.)
- Part-time, year-round: typically 8 - 12 hours per week, including some early evenings and occasional Saturdays and Sundays during the day; work hours and days may vary a bit from week to week (Brethren Village provides an extra $1.00 per hour for weekend work.)
Requirements
Core Requirements:
- a high school diploma or G.E.D.
- basic computer skills: the ability to access and navigate web sites, and use software, apps, and databases independently
- the ability to complete online training independently
- dependability: ability and willingness to meet attendance standards
- attention to safety: ability and willingness to consistently work in a safe and alert manner, and to report to work fit for duty; commitment to wearing protective equipment as required for the position and adhering to all health and safety standards
- commitment to treating each Resident, Team Member, and member of the Brethren Village community with respect
Additional Requirements for this Position:
- at least age 18
- at least 1 year of related work or volunteer experience in a long-term care or healthcare setting, therapeutic recreation or activities department, or health and fitness facility, or relevant training/education
- comfort interacting with adults with dementia or memory loss, and with physical limitations
- an understanding of the aging process and recreation and social activities suitable for an older adult population
- an understanding of how to safely perform exercises with older adults
- experience and effectiveness planning, coordinating, leading, and evaluating programs and activities
- effective interpersonal and communication skills; comfort speaking in front of groups and with older adults; comfort leading group activities
- strong initiative and the ability to effectively work independently
- the ability to safely push adult Residents in wheelchairs throughout the facility; lift and move fitness equipment and push carts; stand and walk frequently during an 8-hour shift; work outdoors when weather permits
- ability and willingness to work occasional evenings, Saturdays, and Sundays
