Job Title - BMS Specialist – Job Description
Job Summary:
Job location: Chennai
Experience: 7 - 12 Years
We are seeking an experienced BMS Specialist with strong expertise in Battery Management System (BMS) application feature development and implementation for Electric Vehicles (EVs). The role involves leading the design, development, integration, and validation of firmware and control functionalities critical to the real-time operation, safety, and performance of EV battery systems.
The ideal candidate should possess deep technical knowledge in BMS algorithms, embedded software development, functional safety, and battery system validation.
Key Responsibilities:
• Collaborate with the requirements and system engineering teams to develop functional designs and implement Battery Management System (BMS) software features.
• Design, develop, integrate, and validate battery control functionalities for EV battery systems.
• Implement and validate functional requirements using Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) simulators and real battery systems.
• Work closely with battery design teams and cross-functional stakeholders to gather, analyze, and convert system requirements into functional software requirements.
• Develop embedded software and control logic for safety-critical battery functionalities.
• Configure and customize existing BMS solutions to meet customer-specific application requirements.
• Support DFMEA (Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis) activities related to battery controls and systems.
• Develop tools, test procedures, and requirements for End-of-Line (EOL) testing and in-field diagnostics.
• Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to battery systems and safety-critical applications across multiple environments and disciplines.
• Ensure compliance with functional safety standards and best practices for high-voltage battery systems.
• Participate in Agile software development activities, including sprint planning, reviews, and technical discussions.
Required Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electronics, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related discipline.
• Minimum 7+ years of experience in Battery Management System (BMS) development.
• Strong experience in SOX algorithm development and cell characterization analysis for Li-ion batteries.
• Hands-on experience with MATLAB, Simulink, Stateflow, Embedded Coder, and M-Scripting.
• Experience in model-based development and validation, including MIL, SIL, and PIL testing.
• Strong embedded software development experience using C programming.
• Knowledge and experience in Basic Software (BSW) development.
• Experience with CAN communication protocols and tools such as CANalyzer and CANoe.
• Strong understanding of High Voltage battery systems and associated safety standards.
• Experience working in Agile software development environments.
• Proven analytical, problem-solving, and debugging skills.
Good to Have:
• Knowledge of Battery Pack Design and Development.
• Experience in software development for High Voltage Battery Systems.
• Familiarity with automotive standards and functional safety concepts (ISO 26262 preferred).
• Exposure to EV powertrain systems and battery diagnostics.

• Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
• Ability to work in cross-functional and fast-paced development environments.
• Strong ownership mindset with attention to quality and safety-critical development practices.
