South Africa Bureau Chief

Bloomberg News seeks an experienced Bureau Chief to lead our news team in South Africa. The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing all coverage from this key region, directing a team of reporters and editors to deliver high-impact, agenda-setting journalism that sets Bloomberg apart. This role will be based in Johannesburg.Key Responsibilities: - Manage and lead a team of reporters and editors to ensure Bloomberg's South Africa coverage is second to none - Drive the news agenda, identifying the most important stories and trends impacting the region - Collaborate closely with teams across Bloomberg News to seamlessly integrate South African coverage into the global news flow - Mentor and develop journalists, helping them hone their skills and reach new levels of excellence - Maintain strong relationships with a wide network of sources, including senior government officials, business leaders and other newsmakers - Work closely with our customers to understand their needs and ensure our coverage remains relevant and impactful Required Skills and Experience: - Significant experience managing and leading a news team, ideally in a fast-paced, international environment - Deep knowledge of the South African and broader African business and political landscape, with strong contacts and sources - Proven track record of delivering high-impact, agenda-setting journalism - Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to motivate and inspire a team - Fluent in English; proficiency in additional languages an advantage - Willingness to travel extensively throughout the region as required
