About the role

At Bloomberg, data powers everything—from real-time market insights to global news delivery. The Data Technologies group builds and maintains the platforms that make this possible—helping our engineers ingest, validate, and serve data at massive scale. As Bloomberg expands its public cloud footprint, we are excited to offer a unique opportunity for a Senior Software Engineer to join the Cloud Infrastructure team within Data Technologies. Who We Are We are the team that provides public cloud infrastructure for the entire Data Technologies organization. One of the first Bloomberg teams to operate in the public cloud, we are responsible for designing, building, and maintaining the foundational cloud services that power data engineering pipelines across the company. Our platform is a multi-tenant environment serving several engineering teams. It must be secure by default, highly reliable, and capable of scaling with Bloomberg's growing data needs—while staying easy to adopt and operate for our users. With a primary focus on AWS—and growing awareness of multi-cloud strategies—we provide scalable, compliant, and low-maintenance solutions that our internal customers can trust. From compute and networking to IAM and observability, we ensure every layer of the cloud stack is robust, production-ready, and aligned with Bloomberg's security posture. Our mission is to offer a convenient and flexible cloud-native managed compute platform, while preserving security, isolation, and cost-efficiency at scale. What You'll Do As part of the Cloud Infrastructure team, you will be responsible for advancing the design and reliability of Bloomberg's cloud-native platform. Your work will focus on delivering secure and scalable infrastructure that empowers internal engineering teams to move quickly and safely in the public cloud. You'll help evolve our IAM and access control strategies, automate infrastructure using Terraform, and reduce operational complexity through tooling and process improvements. You'll also work closely with internal stakeholders to ensure the platform is aligned with real-world requirements—enhancing developer experience, improving observability, and embedding strong security and compliance practices. This is a hands-on engineering role with high impact: you will help define and deliver the infrastructure that underpins Bloomberg's data pipelines in the cloud. Who You Are You are an experienced infrastructure engineer with a deep understanding of cloud technologies and a pragmatic approach to building secure and scalable platforms. You're comfortable operating in a multi-tenant environment and have a strong sense of how to balance platform flexibility with the guardrails needed to protect users and systems. You take a thoughtful, engineering-first approach to automation and reproducibility, and you view security as a core aspect of every decision you make. While you're familiar with Kubernetes, your strength lies in running and integrating cloud-native services rather than contributing directly to Kubernetes internals. You thrive in collaborative environments and are motivated by building tools and platforms that enable others to succeed.
