About the role
The Enterprise Architecture (EA) team is tasked with defining and enforcing architecture governance, strategy, and processes for building on Aladdin. They coordinate architecture engagement across more than 60 domain architects. The EA strategy aligns technology with BlackRock's commercial and strategic goals, focusing on improving operational efficiency, managing risks, and fostering innovation. Our vision is to enable BlackRock/Aladdin to have an architecture that thrives amidst continuous change.
As an engineer within EA, you will work closely with our Senior Lead Engineer to further integrate the BlackRock Architecture Manager within the Aladdin organization. Additionally, you will help define and build out governance automation tools within a domain-driven design (DDD) framework. This includes developing tools and frameworks for continuous monitoring and rule enforcement, collaborating with domain experts to reflect business logic in automated governance, creating scalable and maintainable automation frameworks, and building systems that log and report compliance with existing policies. Your focus will be on creating robust, scalable, and maintainable automation systems that align with domain-driven design principles while ensuring continuous compliance and security. You will also be responsible for building out reference implementations, i.e., scaffolding in the form of code that Aladdin engineers can pick up and begin shaping their capabilities.
Responsibilities include:
Collaborate with team members in a multi-office, multi-country environment.
Deliver high efficiency, high availability, concurrent and fault tolerant software systems.
Significantly contribute to development of Aladdin's global, multi-asset trading platform.
Design and develop innovative solutions to complex problems, identifying issues and roadblocks.
Apply validated quality software engineering practices through all phases of development.
Be a leader with vision and a partner in brainstorming solutions for team productivity, efficiency, guiding and motivating others.
Drive a strong culture by bringing principles of inclusion and diversity to the team and setting the tone through specific recruiting, management actions and employee engagement.
Skills and Experience:
A proven foundation in core Python or Java and related technologies, with OO skills and design patterns
Track record building high quality software with design-focused and test-driven approaches
Good hands-on programming knowledge in Python, Java, TypeScript, JavaScript, Microservices, Angular (2.0+), React.
Experience in a Linux environment.
Experience deploying distributed systems like Cassandra, Kafka, Redis, Kubernetes, or similar is a strong plus.
Experience with cloud deployment technology (Docker, Ansible, Terraform, etc.) is also a plus.
Agile development skills.
Strong knowledge of Open-Source technology stack (Spring, Hibernate, Maven, JUnit, etc.).
Experience with relational database and/or NoSQL Database (e.g., Apache Cassandra)
Great analytical, problem-solving and communication skills
Some experience or a real interest in finance, investment processes, and/or an ability to translate business problems into technical solutions.
