About the role
Key Responsibilities:
- Compliance & Reporting:
- Preparation and timely filing of all U.S. indirect tax returns (sales/use tax, VAT, GST).
- Maintain accurate tax records and documentation for audits.
- Tax Strategy & Advisory:
- Monitor changes in U.S. tax laws and advise on business impact.
- Develop and implement indirect tax policies and procedures.
- Audit Management:
- Lead responses to tax authority inquiries and audits.
- Coordinate with external advisors and internal stakeholders.
- Process Improvement:
- Identify opportunities for automation and efficiency in tax processes.
- Ensure compliance with SOX and internal controls.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration:
- Work closely with Finance, Legal, and Operations teams on tax implications of transactions.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or Taxation.
- Professional certification preferred (CA, CPA, CMI, or equivalent).
- Minimum 5–7 years of experience in U.S. indirect tax compliance.
- Strong knowledge of U.S. state and local tax regulations.
- Experience with ERP systems (SAP) and tax engines (e.g., Vertex, Avalara).
Skills & Competencies:
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities under tight deadlines.
- Effective communication and stakeholder management.
Preferred Experience:
- Managing tax audits and disputes.
- Familiarity with e-commerce and multi-jurisdictional tax issues.
- Process automation and tax technology implementation.
