This position focuses on part and assembly design, packaging, and feasibility, while ensuring manufacturability, quality, and alignment with automotive product development methodologies.
Responsibilities
- Design and develop BIW sheet metal components and assemblies using UG-NX Part Design, Assembly, Sheet Metal, and Drafting modules.
- Create and manage master sections, ensuring proper BIW packaging and assembly feasibility within overall vehicle architecture.
- Apply GD&T principles to define clear and accurate dimensional requirements for BIW parts and assemblies.
- Incorporate DFM and DFA considerations into designs to improve manufacturability, assembly efficiency, and overall product quality.
- Perform tolerance stack-up analysis to ensure robust fit, function, and performance of BIW components.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to align BIW designs with manufacturing processes and OEM design methodologies.
- Use Teamcenter or other PLM tools to manage product data, design revisions, and engineering documentation.
- Create, maintain, and validate bills of materials (BOMs) for BIW components and assemblies throughout the product lifecycle.
- Support the automotive product development cycle by delivering design solutions that meet performance, cost, and timing targets.
- Review and refine designs based on feedback from engineering, manufacturing, and quality teams to ensure production readiness.
Essential Skills
- Strong hands-on experience in UG-NX Part Design, Assembly, Sheet Metal, and Drafting.
- Strong knowledge of BIW product design and automotive sheet metal components.
- Experience working with master sections, BIW packaging, and assembly feasibility.
- Good understanding of GD&T and its application to BIW components and assemblies.
- Good understanding of DFM and DFA principles and their impact on design decisions.
- Ability to perform tolerance stack-up analysis for complex assemblies.
- Experience with Teamcenter or similar PLM systems for product data management.
- Experience in BOM creation and management for automotive components.
- Knowledge of the automotive product development cycle and OEM design methodology.
- Proficiency in surfacing within UG-NX for complex BIW geometries.
- Ability to design brackets and related BIW mounting components.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience working in an automotive engineering or product development environment.
- Familiarity with BIW manufacturing processes such as stamping, welding, and assembly.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary engineering and manufacturing teams.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to design quality and accuracy.
- Good problem-solving skills with the ability to address design and packaging challenges.
- Effective communication skills for presenting design concepts and resolving technical issues.
Work Environment
The role operates in a professional engineering environment focused on automotive product development and BIW design. You will work extensively with UG-NX CAD software, Teamcenter or similar PLM tools, and standard engineering documentation systems. The position involves close collaboration with design, manufacturing, and quality teams, typically in an office or technical center setting with access to modern design workstations and digital collaboration tools.
