About the role

The BIS Innovation Hub is a think tank that develops technology public goods to support central banks and improve the functioning of the financial system. BIS Innovation Hub's London Centre was established in 2020 and has since completed projects Meridian (efficient settlement of housing transactions) and Rosalind (API platform to distribute CBDCs). We are looking for a talented individual with a deep passion for technology and innovation to join our multidisciplinary team as a summer intern. You are highly enthusiastic, curious about emerging trends in technology and have a desire to contribute to a progressive and thought-leading programme of work in the London Centre. The internship would be a full-time or part-time position depending on preference for 12 weeks between June and September 2023. The intern would be responsible for delivering a research report exploring how cutting-edge technologies such as AI and Digital Twins can be applied to strengthen financial stability in the face of emerging systemic risks. The report should examine the potential of these technologies: - The role of financial institutions in mitigating systemic risk, with a focus on interconnectedness across markets. - How current frameworks address these dynamics, and where critical blind spots or data gaps persist. - Case studies showcasing the use of AI, Digital Twins, and other advanced technologies to simulate market behaviour, detect early warning signals, or assess systemic stress scenarios. Opportunities for applying frontier technologies including machine learning, network analysis, and Digital Twin models. This work will be an important contribution to the BIS Innovation Hub London Centres work and help us identify areas for further technology experimentation. The report would be based on desk research and interviews with subject matter experts. The intern would work independently, with support from BIS Innovation Hub's advisors. The role could be performed in person in the BIS Innovation Hub's London Centre or virtually.
