About the Role
We are seeking an experienced BIM / CAD Detailer to develop detailed 3D models, fabrication drawings, installation drawings, and BIM documentation for process piping and mechanical systems used in heavy industrial and water/wastewater construction projects.
The ideal candidate will have strong expertise in AutoCAD Plant 3D, process and mechanical piping detailing, 3D modeling, fabrication spool drawings, piping isometrics, and BIM coordination.
The BIM/CAD Detailer will work closely with Project Engineers, Project Managers, engineers, fabricators, and field teams to ensure that models and drawings accurately reflect project specifications, constructability requirements, and field conditions.
Requirements
- Minimum 5 years of experience detailing process or mechanical piping for industrial, municipal, or water/wastewater construction projects.
- Strong proficiency in AutoCAD Plant 3D for 3D modeling and detailing.
- Proven experience producing:
- Piping fabrication spool drawings
- Piping isometrics
- Shop drawings
- Installation drawings
- Experience detailing process piping systems, including:
- Thermal fusion HDPE
- Stainless steel
- PVC/CPVC
- Ductile iron
- Carbon steel
- Threaded steel
- Double-containment chemical piping
- Strong knowledge of pipe fittings, flanges, valves, expansion joints, and mechanical specialties.
- Ability to detail pipe supports, locations, and connections.
- Experience generating BOMs and material takeoffs directly from 3D models.
- Proficiency in 2D AutoCAD.
- Experience with Autodesk Navisworks for clash detection and multi-discipline coordination.
- Experience with Revit.
- Experience with Autodesk Construction Cloud (ACC) / BIM 360.
- Ability to read and interpret:
- P&IDs
- Civil drawings
- Structural drawings
- Mechanical drawings
- Project specifications
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, Word, Outlook, and Teams.
- Excellent written and spoken English.
- Strong communication skills for direct interaction with U.S.-based Project Managers, Engineers, fabricators, and field teams.
Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain detailed 3D models of process and mechanical piping systems using AutoCAD Plant 3D.
- Model piping systems and components.
- Develop models based on P&IDs, project specifications, engineering drawings, and design requirements.
- Piping Fabrication & Spool Drawings
- Produce detailed piping fabrication spool drawings for shop fabrication and field installation.
- Create piping isometric drawings.
- Shop & Installation Drawings
- Develop shop drawings and prepare installation drawings for process piping, supports, equipment, and mechanical systems.
- Assemble and submit shop drawing submittal packages and manage revisions.
- Coordinate with third-party fabricators and review drawings against models and specifications.
- Detail pipe support types, locations, and connections.
- Clash Detection & BIM Coordination
- Perform clash detection using Autodesk Navisworks and coordinate piping models with other disciplines.
- Bills of Materials & Quantity Takeoffs
- Generate BOMs and material takeoffs directly from 3D models.
- Model & Drawing Revisions
- Maintain revision and version control based on design changes, RFIs, and field conditions.
- Support project teams with constructability reviews.
- As-Built Models & Drawings
- Incorporate field redlines and update as-builts.
- Maintain CAD/BIM standards and custom specs/catalogs.
- Drawing & Document Control
- Manage files using platforms like Autodesk Construction Cloud.
- Field & Engineering Support
- Provide remote support to project teams.
