Location: Atlanta, GA – Hybrid (On-site required for key activities)
On-site Expectation: 2–3 days per week at client datacenter/offices in the Atlanta metro area

Overview

We are seeking a hands-on AWS Cloud Migration Contractor based in or willing to commute regularly to Atlanta, GA, to assist with the execution of an on-premises to AWS migration program. This role is embedded within the client's technical team and requires frequent on-site presence to coordinate directly with datacenter staff, network engineers, and application owners during active migration waves. The ideal candidate is execution-focused, comfortable working in a datacenter environment, and has deep AWS migration tooling experience.

Key Responsibilities

On-site Engagement

  • Attend on-site at client datacenter and office locations in the Atlanta metro area for scheduled migration activities, cutovers, and stakeholder meetings
  • Work directly alongside internal infrastructure, networking, and application teams during hands-on migration execution
  • Participate in physical datacenter decommission coordination, including server inventory validation and rack-level documentation
  • Conduct in-person discovery workshops with application owners and business stakeholders

Assessment & Planning

  • Assist in workload discovery and dependency mapping using AWS Application Discovery Service and third-party tools
  • Support portfolio analysis to classify workloads by migration strategy (6 Rs: Rehost, Replatform, Refactor, Repurchase, Retire, Retain)
  • Contribute to TCO analysis and migration wave planning
  • Help identify and document risks, blockers, and dependencies ahead of each migration wave

Migration Execution

  • Execute lift-and-shift and replatform migrations using AWS Application Migration Service (MGN), Database Migration Service (DMS), and related tooling
  • Assist with network connectivity setup and validation (Direct Connect, Site-to-Site VPN, Transit Gateway)
  • Support cutover planning, scheduling, and execution for each migration wave — including off-hours windows as needed
  • Perform post-migration validation: smoke testing, connectivity checks, performance benchmarking, and rollback verification
  • Coordinate with application owners during cutovers and hypercare periods
  • Maintain accurate migration tracking in AWS Migration Hub and project status dashboards

Enablement & Documentation

  • Document migration runbooks and standard operating procedures for each workload pattern
  • Help upskill internal team members on AWS migration tooling and best practices
  • Contribute to lessons-learned reviews and continuous improvement of migration processes

Required Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in cloud infrastructure, systems engineering, or DevOps roles
  • 2+ years of hands-on AWS migration execution experience, including active participation in cutovers
  • Proficiency with AWS migration services: Application Migration Service (MGN), Database Migration Service (DMS), Migration Hub, Application Discovery Service
  • Working knowledge of AWS core services: EC2, VPC, S3, RDS, IAM, Direct Connect, Route 53, CloudWatch
  • Solid understanding of networking concepts: DNS, subnetting, firewalls, VPN, BGP fundamentals
  • Experience with Windows Server and/or Linux system administration
  • Ability and willingness to work on-site in Atlanta, GA on a regular basis
  • Comfortable with off-hours cutover windows and occasional weekend work during migration waves
  • AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Associate or Professional (or equivalent experience)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with infrastructure-as-code: Terraform or AWS CloudFormation
  • Familiarity with AWS Control Tower, AWS Organizations, and Landing Zone design
  • Experience migrating databases: SQL Server, Oracle, MySQL, PostgreSQL migrations to RDS or Aurora
  • Exposure to container workloads and modernization paths (ECS, EKS)
  • Experience with monitoring and observability tools: CloudWatch, Datadog, Splunk, or similar
  • Familiarity with ITSM change management processes (ServiceNow or similar)
  • AWS Migration Specialty or additional AWS certifications
