POSITION SUMMARY

The Tire and Lube Technician provides maintenance and repair of automotive and related equipment. Under general supervision and in keeping with company sustainability initiatives, performs work in the diagnostic, adjustment, repair and maintenance of vehicles and equipment.  Will be responsible for the routine automotive maintenance and repair needed to keep all vehicles and equipment in good running condition, including gas, diesel, and electrical engines. Safety is a major responsibility of this position. May require independent judgment in the disposition of routine matters without direct supervision. 

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Provides support for the department. In addition to all related duties as assigned, provide routine maintenance and repair of automotive, construction, and related equipment. Employees work under general direction and supervision of the Automotive Mechanic Foreman and are expected to exercise independent judgment as to the method of repair after receiving written or oral instructions concerning the operation and operating condition of a piece of equipment. Work may be inspected or tested by the Automotive Foreman after work is completed.

  • Checks and performs routine automotive services on gasoline and diesel engines, air compressors, auxiliary engines.
  • Provides routine and regular checks on the engine to prevent premature wear and ensure optimal engine performance.
  • Apply lubricants to the moving parts of vehicle engines to prevent damage to the engine.
  • Replace cabin, fuel, air and oil filters, batteries, wiper blades as required.
  • Perform tests on tires to check the pressure and maintain them.
  • Perform tire rotations and ensure tires wear evenly.
  • Keeps simple records of work performed.
  • Performs automobile vehicle inspections.
  • Parts courier for vehicle maintenance.
  • Must be 21 years of age and have a valid driver's license to meet the minimum requirements for driving/operating company equipment and vehicles.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Work requires a knowledge and understanding of an automotive shop and working around\with cars, trucks and equipment. 
  • Need to be knowledgeable in all aspects and use of and maintenance, methods and practices followed in the maintenance of tools, machinery, and equipment.
  • Must demonstrate knowledge of safety practices in the maintenance of vehicles and equipment maintenance. 
  • Basic computer skills and be able to check Fleet Program and do email. Knowledge of tire changer, mounting, and welding is a plus. 
  • Work requires continual attention to details. Must exhibit excellence in Customer Service with all customers. 
  • To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

  • One year certificate from college or technical school; or three to six months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

 

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

Must have the ability to maintain and/or obtain a Valid Driver’s License and meet the requirements for driving a company vehicle.


PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is not regularly required to sit. The employee is frequently required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel.  The employee is required to stand, walk; reach with hands and arms and talk or hear.  The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Greater than 100 pounds may require a team lift. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and ability to adjust focus. Specific required movements include the following: trunk-bend, twist, rotate, push, pull, and carry, arm’s reach and leg-lifts. The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.
