Responsible for the implementation of health-related programs, services, and Activities of Daily Living (ADL) which promote, enhance, and maintain resident health and independence. Complies with established policies and procedures to perform responsible professional and human support activities in the care of nursing facility residents. Responsible for supervising Certified Nursing Assistants. Receives general supervision and direction from the Director of Nurses.
Full-Time LPN for 1st shift (6:30am to 3:00pm).
Pay Range: $23.79/hour to $33.00/hour
PLUS Weekend Differential of an extra $3.00/hour!

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Demonstrates competency to perform LPN job duties, including skills and use
equipment.
Conducts comprehensive resident assessment and assists in developing a plan of
care based on that assessment which is consistent with medical recommendations.
Directs CNA’s in meeting the needs of the residents based on the written care plan.
Reviews care plans with supervisors, physicians, and family. Through observation and monitoring, makes recommendations for changes in care and treatment as necessary.
Documents pertinent information on medical records. Reviews charts for new orders and accuracy.
Maintains inventory of resident’s medications. Orders medications and supplies as needed. Administers medications and treatments as ordered by the attending physician.
Controls Narcotics and drug patches with accurate counting and reporting at shift changes
Utilizes non pharmaceutical interventions to control pain and minimize undesired behaviors prior to the use of medications
Admits, discharges, and transfers residents as appropriate. Assists with making resident appointments.
Assists with physician rounds. Takes verbal orders from physicians and transcribes them onto the E-MAR. Reviews physicians orders for accuracy
Performs testing per physician orders
Makes rounds no less than at the beginning and end of each shift
Assist with cleaning and maintaining the medication cart and med room
Supervises CNA staff to include counseling and shift assignments. Assists with performance evaluations of personnel working under his/her supervision.
Supports resident and family during dying process. Performs post mortem care per policy.
Provides a safe environment for all residents as a member of the QAPI team.
Provides a neat and clean environment. Observes environment for potential fall hazards and provides interventions for prevention. Reports any needed repairs to the maintenance department.
Completes event reports as indicated
Provides and supports restorative care.
Assists residents with meals. Provides additional in-room hydration (i.e. water or thickened liquids) and ensures liquids are within reach of the resident.
Observes and follows resident’s rights of dignity, respect, and privacy.
Reports potential signs or actual signs of abuse or neglect of resident care as a Virginia Mandated Reporter.
Understands emergency policies and be able to carry out and follow directions in an actual emergency.
Follows infection control practices per facility policies and procedures.
Provides appropriate care for those residents with undesired behaviors.
Maintains HIPPA regulations and confidentiality for residents and co-workers.
Follows all personnel policies of Bedford County Nursing Home. Understands the progressive Bedford County disciplinary process.
Performs other duties as directed and assigned by supervisor or the Director of Nursing.
Participates in employee meetings and training as needed. Will be required to attend mandatory in-services as scheduled.
Performs special projects as assigned.
Meets attendance requirements and maintains the highest level of dependability. Will work assigned schedule and will be responsible for clocking in and out accurately.
Consistently demonstrates ability to respond to changing situations in a flexible manner in order to meet current needs, and reprioritizes work as necessary.
Education/Experience:
Requires graduation from an accredited school of licensed practical nursing. Long term care experience is preferred.
Knowledge/Skills and Abilities:
This professional position calls for general knowledge of skill in nursing practices and routines. When nursing care does not involve the exercise of professional judgment, employee may perform with specific instructions from the Director of Nursing and/or Nursing Home Administrator.
Requires general knowledge of nursing techniques and their relation to medical practices; general knowledge of sanitation, hygiene, and medical treatment; ability to apply therapeutic treatment and written instructions; ability to keep records and complete reports; ability to develop and maintain positive working relationships with residents, families, and other professional personnel; ability to supervise others; alertness, agility, physical stamina and physical condition sufficient to assigned tasks.
Certifications/Licenses:
Must possess a current license to practice as a Licensed Practical Nurse issued by the Commonwealth of Virginia. Employee will be responsible for keeping his/her license and education requirements current.

Special/Additional Requirements:
Subject to a complete criminal history background search and drug screening with acceptable results.
The worker will be required to work overtime, weekends, and holidays as defined by the needs of the department.
