The Role: BDR Lead (First Sales Hire)
You won't be executing someone else's playbook - you'll be writing it.
This is our first sales hire. You'll build the entire sales development function from scratch, working directly with founders to define our GTM strategy, close our first 50 customers, and potentially grow into a co-founder role.
What You'll Own
Build the Sales Machine (50%)
- Design and execute our entire outbound strategy from zero
- Identify target segments, build ICP, define buyer personas
- Create multi-channel prospecting campaigns (email, LinkedIn, cold calls, events)
- Generate 100+ qualified meetings in first 6 months
- Build and manage pipeline of 50+ active opportunities
- Close 15-25 customers in first 6 months (with founder support initially)
- Experiment rapidly: test messaging, channels, sequences—find what works
Own the Full Sales Cycle (30%)
- Run discovery calls and product demos
- Navigate complex enterprise sales cycles
- Negotiate pricing and contracts
- Work with founders on strategic deals
- Transition from pure outbound to managing inbound flow
- Build relationships that lead to referrals and case studies
Create Sales Infrastructure (15%)
- Set up and maintain CRM (HubSpot/Salesforce)
- Build sales collateral, templates, scripts, email sequences
- Document everything: prospecting playbook, objection handling, demo scripts
- Create dashboards tracking all key metrics
- Establish processes for lead qualification and handoff
- Build systems that scale beyond you
Strategic Growth Partner (5%)
- Weekly strategy sessions with founders
- Provide market feedback to shape product roadmap
- Identify partnership and channel opportunities
- Contribute to pricing strategy and packaging
- Help prepare for fundraising (customer testimonials, metrics, positioning)
Success Looks Like
Month 3 Milestones:
- Tested 3+ outbound channels, identified top 2 performers
- 40+ qualified meetings booked
- 8-12 paying customers closed
- Clear ICP and messaging framework defined
- Sales playbook v1.0 documented
- Pipeline of 30+ active opportunities
Month 6 Milestones:
- 15-25 customers acquired (cumulative)
- 100+ qualified meetings delivered
- 50+ active pipeline opportunities
- Proven, repeatable sales playbook
- 3-5 customer case studies/testimonials
- Clear recommendations for hiring BDR team
- Demonstrated ability to own strategic deals independently
Month 12 & Beyond:
- 40+ customers (if growth trajectory continues)
- Built and possibly leading a small sales team
- Established as critical strategic partner to founders
- Potential path to co-founder/VP Sales role with equity stake
Who You AreRequired (These Are Non-Negotiable)
- 1-3 years of BDR/SDR experience in B2B SaaS or tech sales IMPORTANT: Candidates with more than 3 years experience should NOT apply
- We want hungry, early-career talent ready to build, not to manage
- Proven track record: consistently hit/exceeded quotas
- Strong hustle and builder mentality - you've done outbound in the trenches
- Excellent communication skills (written and verbal)
- Comfortable with ambiguity and rapid iteration
- Self-starter who doesn't need hand-holding
- Data-driven: you live in your metrics and optimize relentlessly
- Coachable but opinionated - bring ideas, be ready to debate
Bonus Points
- Experience selling to technical buyers (CTOs, data teams, engineers)
- Built or scaled sales processes at early-stage startups
- Sold BI, analytics, data tools, or developer products
- Closed enterprise deals ($50K+ ACV)
- Experience with AI/ML products or understanding of the space
- Previously worked in pre-seed to Series A startups
- Comfort creating content (demo videos, case studies, thought leadership)

This isn't guaranteed, but it's a real path. We want someone who could be our revenue co-founder, not just our first sales hire.
