PROPOSED SALARY RANGE: £28,100 - £36,000 depending on relevant skills, knowledge and experience. The expected salary range for this role reflects internal benchmarking and external market insights.

PURPOSE OF THE ROLE

We’re looking for a creative and passionate Social Media Executive to join the BBC Radio central social media team, with a focus on BBC Radio 1. You’ll help bring our radio, music, and podcast content to life through engaging short-form video and social storytelling. Your work will help young UK audiences discover and connect with the BBC’s audio content in fresh and exciting ways.

Your Key Responsibilities And Impact

  • Create relatable, high-quality short-form video content that brings Radio 1’s audio to life.
  • Schedule, optimise, and publish content across Radio 1’s social media platforms.
  • React quickly to trending moments and develop thumb-stopping ideas and formats.
  • Collaborate with artists, creators, and non-BBC channels to amplify reach.
  • Work closely with other execs and production teams to ensure cohesive, impactful promotion.
  • Ensure all content is compliant and properly logged for BBC publishing.
  • Support wider BBC music and podcast campaigns as needed.

Essential Criteria

YOUR SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Strong knowledge of BBC Radio 1, its audience, and the wider UK music scene.
  • Proven experience creating engaging content for platforms like TikTok, Instagram Reels, and YouTube Shorts.
  • Significant experience working with a publisher or broadcaster on social media.
  • Skilled in video and image editing, including Adobe Creative Suite and mobile editing apps.
  • Confident communicator with the ability to pitch ideas and collaborate across teams and talent.

Desired But Not Required

  • Experience working on social campaigns for live events or festivals.
  • Familiarity with BBC editorial standards and compliance.
  • Understanding of podcast promotion and audio storytelling.
  • Experience using social media analytics to inform strategy.
  • A personal or professional portfolio showcasing relevant content.
